Has anyone here taken apart the original Thetford Aqua magic toilet? Ours will not open the blade valve when the pedal is depressed. Is this easily fixable? Any tips on doing it? We're living in ours full-time, so putting it off is not an option.

I have replaced 2 of these

I found the flat valve (vs a ball valve) will not seal - long term- and the
mechanical parts are not good enough to repair.

here is Kelvin description of a new install

Richard,
If it the original thetford toilet it is time to update and make your
wife happy with a new China bowl toilet that is much easier to clean.
Parts hard to get and expensive and really not worth repairing. This
is a very popular unit that many are installing and this is a good
price with $6 shipping. You want the high profile unit as it is 17.5"
tall and just the right height for more senior people. I have
installed this unit in two of my coaches and it is a great fit. You
have 2 choices in color.

We found a SeaLand 310 china bowl toilet with a spray wand for around $150 on EBay. Much better than the old plastic original.

I had a Sealand toilet in the Stretch but the wife did not like the
location and height of the pedal as compared to the Thedford toilet.
Wife wins, the Sealand got moved to the Avion which will be sold when
finished.

I have the same toilet that I traded Steve F. out of. We love it but did not get the front cover. No one notices anyway. When I was looking I found some a lot cheaper than Camping World's price listed above. They may have gone up a lot in the last 3 years. At any rate, nice crapper, you will like it.

Richard,

It is not difficult to repair, but nobody stocks the parts.
You can probably order the kit from Thetford, but they hold all orders for two days before they ship.

I your case, get was CW can deliver today. Replace the pot and never look back. It may be the price of a full tank, so don't travel ONE day.....

I don't find plastic hard to clean, but I find Thetford's attitude hard to take.

Richard,

I bought two of these:

http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-toilets-tanks/aqua-magic-style.htm

P/N 83-1598

As you see they'll ship it for free. Bottom line: $229.00 plus $18.89 tax equals $247.89.

Unfortunately it tossed the old Thetford.

Regards,
Rob M.
