I've found reference to the Gross Vehicle weight on Wikipedia at 12500. Is this the actual weight of the RV? I've found a service to haul mine but he can't take 12500. I guess I'm looking for the curb weight of the base machine.

Sir: it really depends on the coach. My 23` laden weight (Rally ready, full of fuel and packed) weighes 9600 lb. Here are some others at a Rally.
http://www.gmceast.com/technical/GMC-CoachWeight-Spr2010.pdf
John Sharpe has a 26 that weighes a little less than 10K.

Many 26 foot GMCs weigh close to 12000 pounds when loaded.

Yes, the GVWR of the later coaches is 12500. I think it's safe to say the curb weight of your coach is about 9,500 to 10,000

Kerry,

Since you didn't specify what model GMC you purchased or if it was built by a refitter such as Coachman I think the best thing for
you to do is click on the link below:

http://www.bdub.net/factory-manuals.html

and download the following manuals:

Parts Manual: 78Z Covers all years

Maintenance Manuals
1975 / 1976 X-7525
1976 Supplement X-7625

Operator's Manuals
1976 X-7621A

Considering what you intend to do with the GMC these two might also be of interest:

Body Builders Manual 10 Mb
Factory Assembly Manual 27 Mb

Once you've downloaded the manuals Open Manual X-7621a and turn to Page 1 - IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON VEHICLE LOADING. There you will
find all the information you require regarding the weight of a 1976 GMC.

Regards,
Rob M.

Excellent Info Rob. Thank you. Mine is a GM and according to the manual you put me on weights 11550 lbs empty. I had already downloaded that manual but had not seen the weight page. This community is a great resource. Thanks for having me.

In my travel trailer days I used 2000 Lbs as an adder to the units dry wt and I foumd that to ne pretty accurate. Had to add battery, propane, awning, a/c, all personal crap, water if put in tank, and in the GMC add people. Would be interesting to see some data.

Just looked at my TZE plate....it only gives 3 max GROSS weights....total vehicle, front wheels and rear wheels. I have always understood GROSS as fully loaded max, not dry or empty curb wt.

We weighed a bunch of coaches at Casa de Fruta. Some of the later Royales
were approaching the GVW of 12,500 lbs, with a couple going over that
figure. Somewhere in the 11,850 lb range will be close for a laden coach
based on what we measured.

Question: Are RV's allowed to drive through the interstate truck rolling weigh stations just to get their total weight?

I think that Ray is probably close.
I have been to rallies where GMCs have been weighed and that is why I said close to 12000 pounds. Perhaps some of those people who did the weighings could comment.

And some of those weighings were done with the driver outside watching the scale and no wife inside.

2 people = 300 to 450 pounds, say an ave of 375 (many of us guys are not light weight)
Water in tank, sodas, beer = 280 pounds
Propane = 60 pounds
Gasoline = 350 pounds
Food = 100 pounds
Clothing, shoes, etc. = 80 pounds
Pots, pans, dishes = 30 pounds
Tools = 60 pounds
Spare parts = 75 pounds
Air conditioner = 200 pounds
Pod = ?
Awning = 75 pounds
Computer, camera, etc = 30 pounds

This totals 1725 pounds.

There are a lot of other things that people pack such as bicycles, bar b que, lawn chairs, GMC manuals, books, magazines, Fishing poles, golf clubs, computer printer, medicines, trailer hitch, tow bar, etc.

I think someone that still has data from weighings should let us know what they found.

We had a Jayco 24' that had a dry wt of 3500 lbs, scaled it several times and it was always in the 5500 range, amazing how it all adds up fast. (That's why I work so hard to maintain my body fat to it's 2% level....so we stay within the GVW restriction). <GRIN>
