There was a mention of 110mm brake calipers on the net awhile back. Has anyone done this? Anyone have the part numbers?
Willing to try.

Tom,
I've never heard (unless CRS took it) of 110 mm calipers on anything.
A search of the Google archive back to 8/31/09 yields no mention of "110"
"mm". Lots of "110"'s, but all referring to other than brakes.
Imagine how large a MC would be needed!

Ken, I may be wrong about the 110mm designation, however, the discussion covered a brake caliper with two pucks for greater pressure, using the OEM master cylinder. Leigh Harrison sent me a link to one that appears to fit.

That sounds more reasonable. I'd like to hear more, 'tho' I have NO
intention of changing again! :-)
I did find one link to "110 mm calipers" -- but it was for bike brakes; I
think they refer to the length of the operating arm.

If I recall correctly this is a caliper with dual 55mm pistons.
The effective radius of a disk brake is the distance from the axle to the
center of the piston, brake torque is directly proportional to the effective
radius. Using dual pistons with a smaller diameter can move the center of
the pistons closer to the edge of the rotor increasing the effective radius.
Dual 55mm pistons do not equal a single 110mm piston in piston area.
Dual 55mm pistons have an area of 4752 square mm, an 80mm piston has an area
of 5026 square mm.
It would only take a 5-6% increase in effective radius for the dual piston
caliper to exceed the brake force of an 80mm caliper while requiring 5% less
brake fluid.
This sounds like a winner to me.

Ken,
Jim Rountree made a presentation on the Chevy 1 ton front end he installed
in his GMC.
IMHO it leaves the current 1 ton FOR DEAD! He used the Chevy upper and lower
(FORGED) control arms. The brakes were dual pot with a total area of 110mm.
Here's a link to a picture of the parts he used.

Before anyone asks this modification takes someone with SERIOUS fabrication
skills and no Jim is not developing a kit.
BTW Dave Lenzi and the guy that built the Oscar Meyer Weiner Wagon out in CA
were working on the same project. As I understand it they threw in the towel
due to liability concerns.
Regards,
Rob M.
