A GMC friend asked me to check out her 93 Lumina Euro. It has a clicking sound when turning to the right only. Also does it in reverse with wheels turned to right. It is a dry hi pitch clicking. It sounds exactly like a loose lug nut in a hubcap. Drives straight and smooth, no difference in anything when clicking with or without brakes applied. Under peer pressure I have replaced loaded calipers and rotors, new timken wheel bearings, and new cv axles. The clicking is still there.
I`m thinking catilitic converter has come apart on the inside and right turns puts the cradle and exhaust in such a way to cause this clicking??? The clicking does not increase with speed and will do it only when the car is moving even in right curves at hwy speed or in parking lot. Has anybody ever barked up a tree like this before??

Have you checked the sway bar end link mounts? Check for play with weight on the suspension.

Sir: the swaybar bushings are intact and no signs of any contact with anyting. When I jack it up, even under the ball joint it does not load the front to ride height. I cannot find a shiny spot nowhere. Thanks for the thought..

Sir: it has alum wheels with a small round plactic center cap, and yes I did try it without the center cap, no change. Thanks
Bruce Hart wrote on Wed, 04 July 2012 19:05 | Does it have a wheel cover (hub cap)? I had a clicking noise on a
ford van , replaced both front wheel bearings and still had the noise.
took the wheel covers off and noise went away.

No Sir I did not try rotating tires.
The new Tracker engine is in Ken Burtons hanger waiting on Dean & Cherrie to pick it up on their way down. Hopefully in a few weeks. Thanks for the link on the engine..
Larry wrote on Wed, 04 July 2012 20:01 | A tire belt seperation could cause the noise. Did you try moving the wheels front to rear to see if the noise moves with it?
Hows that Tracker coming Bud??

We have had many occasion when the end links are not securely pinned at both ends cause a racket. To rule it out for certain you can disconnect the link from the bar at both sides. Very hard to tell when vehicle weight is not on the suspension as when suspension is hanging there is no play in the links. What was the last thing done to the car before the noise started?
