Walmart is selling "internet on the go" that allows WiFi connection via the Sprint network with no contract and no time limit on prepaid service. It requires an internet hotspot device for about $120 and data plans starting at 100mb for $10. If Sprint goes where you go it's a neat deal. The device is a mini router and appears wirelessly on your computer as a new network address.

Works well. Used it when stuck in an antique apartment, house hunting in Vicksburg. Now on high Internet, this will be my travel back up. You can even use it while the vehicle is in motion. 3G speeds is downside.
Same device and pricing at Radio Shack. Local Wal-Mart was out of stock when I needed it. Manager had no idea or interest in when it would be stocked again.
Pricing downside you must have it on line once a year to keep the contract open. Minor cost.

Virgin Mobile resells the same, more or less. The downside is that
Sprint's coverage is two-thirds that or the other guys. We gave up and are
now using a new JetPack from Verizon. 4G when available. Connected to
external antenna. Not cheap but still pay-as-you-go. My wife has needed it
so we could take our present 33-day trip around the western part of the US
between the Rockies and the Mississippi. It sure beats the performance of
the "free WiFi" at the campgrounds where we have stayed. The worst
campground was in Sheridan where the internet access was via satellite and
about 40 people in the campground were sharing that s-l-o-w connection. It
reminded me of the days of the 28.8 modem.
