If you monitor the transmission pan temperature it will give a good indication of how well your transmission is being cooled. My tranny temp sensor is in the pan, which is probably the most accurate, most meaningful, and least subject to "spikes". What I've seen over the past year (at highway speed):

On grades where the engine is working pretty hard the trans temp will climb to about 75 degrees over air (e.g. air temp of 90 means trans temp of 165). On long hard climbs with the engine at WOT in 2nd gear, the trans temp will steadily climb well above these numbers. The highest trans temp I've seen so far was 195 degrees at the crest of a 5 mile long, 6% grade with 95 degree temps. Once you hit the 190 level you might either start going downhill soon to take the load off the engine/ transmission or pull over to let things cool down. Heat is a major destroyer of your transmission.

Gents,
I have an EQUUS Multi function Computer Gauge (6272), well actually two of
them. Are they similar in function to the digi panel?

and here are links to the digipanel on the gmc
http://www.gmcmotorhome.info/chassis.html#digi
the advantages to me are:
- I don't want to try and interpret meter readings while driving.
- easy Marking for quick looks
- an alarm to wake up, and show problems
- lighted readings
- ease of mounting (no new holes, brackets, etc)
- no clutter of dash
- easy modifications for fuel pressure
- use existing sensors (sensor available for press)
- proven reliability
- low cost,
- JimK has all the parts

Personally, I want the "systems" SAFETY device
just off my line of vision down the road! It
would be sorta like HUD (Heads Up Display) in
aircraft. I don't want to have to look
"off axis" by 30-45 degrees to get the info.
Also, I imagine the case can easily be painted
to match the color of your dash and reduce the
"ugly factor" considerably.

and for those of us that are Ham radio operators, they are
VERY susceptible to RF interference (they alarm when you
transmit on any band at any power level).

I THINK I have see an installation where someone enlarged
the hole where the radio goes (making it essentially a din
and a half) opening and then mounting it above the DIN size
radio they installed.

That's fairly simple to fix. Time consuming, but simple.
