I called Jim K. If yall get 5 guys to order he can give you 10% off the digipanel. That is a good discount. I think the price is 210.00 on the website.
Well worth the money.
Just passing this along.

I'm curious about the Digi-Panel.

Their website shows some various options.

Does anybody know if they make custom units
with custom panels?

Yeah, I could simply call them, but just
wonder if anybody here has any experience.

Here is what I am interested in:

I think I want two panels for Money Pit.

Main:

Eng (Coolant) Temp
Oil Temp
Oil Pressure
Eng Btry

Aux:

Tran Temp #1 (in)
Tran Temp #2 (out)
Diff Temp
RV Btry

Yes, I tend to be a bit "anal" on things.

I am curious as to what you plan to do with the tranny in and tranny out temperatures once you know them?

Most of us are doing well just monitoring the tranny pan temperature.

I think somebody here on the list mentioned monitoring
both in and out a couple of weeks back. If I remember,
perhaps it was about checking out the tranny temp rise
under heavy loading.

If that is not a valid concern, I think Digi-Panel
also makes a three-unit panel that could be similarly
customized, but use only Tran Temp, Differential Temp,
and RV Battery.

Or is Differential Temp not a concern, either?

The final drive temperature is probably something that you shouldn't have to monitor.

It is pretty easy to modify your Digipanel. I installed a switch and mounted an oil pressure sender teed into my TBI fuel line. By flipping the switch I could use the oil pressure meter to also monitor my fuel pressure.

You could do the same for temperature sensors by just buying some temp sensors and adding a switch. That way you wouldn't have to buy a second Digipanel.

Good afternoon, Emery.

So which tranny temp should concern me, in or out?
I suspect out, but I'm pretty green on this stuff.

I want to have easily visible indication of important
running conditions. I can't readily view the few stock
gauges on the stock GMC panel.

I don't believe I need to monitor fuel pressure on my
carb engine with a mechanical fuel pump, but it might
be useful as a diagnostic tool.

I guess I could double up Oil and Tranny temps with the
switch and do the same with chassis and house battery
monitoring.

Now, I'm pondering buying a PAIR of 3-slot monitors to
monitor six parameters continuously without having to
switch functions around, but that's rather costly.

I monitor both temps in trans but the pan is what you want to know for sure. The torque converter is optional and will run 50 or so degrees hotter than the pan.
I am not in charge of this buy. Just wanted to pass on what I found out from Jim K. this morning.
I use my digi panel alarms. Just in case I miss a gauge I will hear the alarm. We have lots of gauges in our dash. My vacuum gauge gets watched the most. I have a fuel pressure gauge in the dash. Easy to tell if I am having vapor lock issues, it falls. Only happened twice.
I see two fellas wanting a digi panel. 3 more and you get a bargain.

Mac,

I bought a second OEM oil pressure sender so that I could have a separate
source for the oil pressure reading on Double Trouble. One sender would go
to the OEM gage the second to the Digi Panel. When I wired it up the Digi
Panel didn't work properly. I called them up and they advised that the Digi
Panel must be wired into the stock OEM oil pressure sender with the OEM gage
connected to it or it won't work. They did that to make it easy to install.

They told me that they could re-wire mine for that function so I may get
around to it some day. The problem is that to disconnect the Digi Panel you
have to pull the sensors that are connected to the items it monitors. It
doesn't have a connection at the back with a separate harness. That makes
removing it a PITA. If I do pull it I would cut the wires and install a
connector.

IMHO the Digi Panel monitors all the items that really need monitoring:

Engine oil pressure - OEM pressure sender
Engine temperature - thermocouple under one of the thermostat housing bolts
Trans oil temperature - thermocouple under one of the trans pan bolts rear
bolts
Battery voltage - not sure exactly where it is connected

Chuck Garton may disagree with me! ;-)

When JimB wired in my cheap Harbor Freight gages with a separate oil
pressure sender and trans temp sender I discovered that they run very close
to the Digi Panel readings.

On a final note the absolute accuracy of the gages installed isn't as
important as how much they change. If your oil pressure runs at 50 psi
normally going down the road and all of a sudden it drops to 25 it needs
investigating. If you hook in a second gage and it reads 30 psi that's still
a problem.

Regards,
Rob M.

I'm curious about the Digi-Panel.

Their website shows some various options.

Yeah, I could simply call them, but just
wonder if anybody here has any experience.

Here is what I am interested in:

I think I want two panels for Money Pit.

Main:

Eng (Coolant) Temp
Oil Temp
Oil Pressure
Eng Btry

Aux:

Tran Temp #1 (in)
Tran Temp #2 (out)
Diff Temp
RV Btry

Yes, I tend to be a bit "anal" on things.

As I understand it the Digipanel monitors 4 functions with optional functions available.
Are these additional functions also discounted?

R.D.

Here's a link to the Digi Panel website order sheet:

http://www.digi-panel.com/pricesheet.htm

* Option selected by "options" switch. More than one * option requires
custom panel. Consult factory.

If I'm not missing anyone I only see 3 who have committed to buy so far if there is a group discount -
D C Mac Macdonald
JR Wheeler
