Hi all,
Picked up one of those heater hose diverter valves from NAPA up here in the Great White North. $37.00, a tad more than the 11.99 in the US of A. But by the time I get it across the border shipping & customs fees would make it more $$$.

Anyway, I have a 77 PB so I'm looking for the correct vacuum line to use. From Gene's site I have a "type III" system with 2 lines going to the temperature vac switch.

It appears the "Gray" line from the temperature vac switch has been T'd back into the main Vac line.

Is there a vacuum line diagram for this style? All I can find is this:
http://www.gmcws.org/Tech/air_conditioning/air_conditing.html
But it doesn't show any vac line routing.

Thanks

Bruce,

Which vacuum line you use would be dependent on what you are trying to accomplish. If you just want to bypass the heater core when the AC is running then use the vacuum line that goes to the existing heater control valve. It is in front of the heater box. That vacuum line is controlled by the dash heater control.

Next time you want something like that, email me and I'll go get it and mail it to you as an antique auto part. It would have been 11.99 plus 7% sales tax and US postage. The total would have been around $20.00 USD.

Ken,
Thanks for that offer, I may take you up on it sometime!.

For the vacuum line, my coach didn't have a vacuum shutoff valve when I got it, so that's what I am trying to add.

Both of the lines from the temperature control vac switch are T'd into lines going to the A/C heater function switch, so I'm looking for the correct routing of the lines.

Bruce,

In the Maintenance Manual, section 1, page 104, Fugure 110 is a vacuum line diagram.

It shows a gray line to the water valve -- (my 73 has a gray line to the water valve.

If you don't have a MM -- you can see them on bdub.net

Does this help?

Dennis

thanks Dennis,
I have a manual, but it covers the early version control panel with 3 hoses at the temperature vac switch.

My later version has only 2 hoses.

Bruce,

There is the supplement...

http://bdub.net/manuals/X7725/X7725.pdf

see page 1B - 25

If this is yours -- the water valve is operatied by a pink line.

Dennis,
Thanks for that.. I have that supplement from the GMC CD! Forgot all about it.

Now to figure out why a PO has T'd it into another vacuum line.

For those interested in the diverter valve, it works simply by using a single butterfly to divert the coolant on either side of butterfly. A simple elegant solution. It will leak a bit of coolant leak by though, so it won't help in the case of a heater core leak.
