at times my cover is off for days and days,regular cover bulky and i am lazy.
i think rodents like my cover off method.
has anyone done like a 3 piece cover that is hinged from one panel to another??
i am leaning on thinking that direction,
any input?/

How about just a thin piece of Masonite cut to size to cover the area? Just enough to keep the rodents out , but not too heavy to easily move.
I'm sure you could modify the hatch with a piano hinge, but it still will weigh the same.

i agree, what i am thinking is sometype of cover that i use when at home, easy in and out. then maybe the large cover when on road, i dont know if hinged is what i need, maybe just a 3 piece of seperate panels? over next week or 2 i will be doing something, i like the ease of getting to things with it open, but until the rodents get a job and help buy motohome parts i would prefer they stay at teh neighbors.
i was surprised how quick they built the nest i found

I did make a smaller cover for mine out of 3/4" plywood, that fits side to side, but only covers about 1/3 of the engine hatch area.
I find it helps to be able to lay down on the board while working on the front end to change belts, etc. I also can carry it with me to use if I need to put something solid on the ground to place a jack or something else on uneven ground.

i have one of those, belly pan. gift from merril last summer ,
it is great for what it is, but rodents do get past it. i am leaning towards 3 panels that instead of hinge maybe dowel rods and holes to hold in place but removeable one panel at time, ?

Brian,
Several years ago I mounted two butts (house door hinges to most folks) at
the front of the hatch. Replaced the pins with slightly smaller diameter
rods bent into L-shape. The lid stays in place with a prop under it (I
never got around to gas cylinders figuring they'd be in my way) unless I
pull the pins and remove the whole thing. I don't remember modifying
anything else, but I may have had to trim the flange at the front.
It's a quick and easy solution which doesn't create any new leaky cracks or
insulation complications.

this is s great idea, needs a pillow and tv attachment.
what is the best measurements if there is already a scientific study of it.
attach lights to it. great idea. i'll figure it out. thanks for the idea.
