I wanted to know if there were any good GMC shops in or around the Houston area. I have been swamped with work and looking to get my Honda generator installed along with a second air conditioner. Also just to have someone go over the mechanicals other than me. Unfortunately I am in the middle of the two Jims. Just wondering if there is any good shops in the area that have a GMC background.

If you are referring to the Honda ev6010, there are some good photos of several installations in 26' GMC. Will not fit in 23'. On bdub site, I have a PDF posted of the support tray for mounting the Honda on. It is from a scan of the official Honda print. If you can access a large printer /plotter, it will print at full scale, and you can make it yourself. Remember Honda Calls for 1" clearance around the generator for proper cooling. Also, cooling air is drawn in from the same area that GMC put the original small starting battery for Onan. Do not block airflow.
Honda suggests 20 gauge sheet metal for the mounting tray.
I will be doing my ev6010 next month, so keep us posted on your progress.

Charley,

I keep a GMC up in Humble and will be arriving there on July 3rd to get it
ready for this years USA tour.

I do all the mechanical work on my GMC over there and here. Feel free to
call me on 267-271-3071 between July 5th and 10th if you would like to bring
your GMC over I'd be happy to spend some time going over it with you to see
what we can find regarding the mechanicals.

As far as installing the Honda I wouldn't have a clue how to do it.

Regards,
Rob M.

Rob,

My newly inherited GMC lives in New Caney right now and my folks live in Kingwood. How often/long are you in the Humble area? Will it just be that week in July?

Yes I will be installing a Honda ev6010. Just trying to get it on the road as soon as possible. May be renting SOB as we will be going to North Carolina the first week in July. Rob let me know if you will be around later this Summer as would love to come by. I just ran out of time as my job sent me out of town and really put me behind with GMC. I will document my Honda install. Hope to do the engine block off this weekend. I guess I did things a little backwards as I have been renovating the inside as wife and kids would have never used it if I didn't.

Chris / Charley,

Our travel schedule for this summer is:

3 July: I arrive in Humble

14 July: Helen arrives in Humble

22 July: We depart for the GMC 2012 Magical Mystery Tour

Note: It's the Mystery Tour because I'm the mechanic, driver, and make
recommendations as to the route to take. Helen does the detailed planning.
This year we're going to get a sim card for her iPad so she can access the
Internet as we "ease on down the road" and find sights we'd like to see and
RV campgrounds to stay at. So far I haven’t been given my driving
instructions! ;-)

July 23 - Oct 4: We're "on the road again."

Oct 5: We arrive back in Humble

Oct 7 - Helen returns to Sydney

Oct 8 - I begin putting Double Trouble to bed until next year

Oct 23 - I return to Sydney

Bottom line: to keep peace in the Mueller family and to get done what I must
get done I am available July 5 - 13 and October 8 - 22.

Regards,
Rob M.

Gene,

Yes it's the EV6010, however, they have been discontinued by Honda. You still can find them here and there.

As you can see in this picture it is bigger (fore / aft) than a 6000 Watt Onan so it won't fit in a '23.
