There's a putrid odor in my 1975 GMC.
I thought there was rotten food under the dinette.
Then I discovered that it emerges from under the dash
when lower the rear suspension. It's coming from
the Power Level valves.
Has anyone had this problem?
Is there a filter I can put on it?
Thanks,
Bill

Maybe a dead mouse in the dashboard or the heater box and when the valves
vent it blows it around inside ??? Try running the heat and see if it
smells. Mice and rats love heater boxes.

Yesterday I took apart the heater box, but found no animals.

Bill,
Does your air system have a holding tank? (my 73 has a tank under the battery tray) If it has one -- perhaps you might drain it -- old condensed water may have a smell..

Dennis,
My Glenbook has an air tank on the drivers side.
I'll drain it and see what's inside.

Bill,
When you took the heater box apart, did you also remove the evaporator? If
not, you missed a very common debris/critter location -- the back side of
that device. It's not a trivial job to remove it, so you may want to
remove the resistor pack at the driver's side of the box and look in there
-- with a light & mirror or a bore scope. Vacuuming MIGHT work to clean
the area partially.
There are other, even less accessible locations in the HVAC box, so don't
be too quick to dismiss that possiblity.

It was strange looking. But not green.
We put baking soda and charcoal in there.
The odor is going away...
