Hello,
Do you guys think that the use of those spring coils for bends in water hoses is overkill, or do you think they would be a good idea?. I am coming near replacing the old hoses to the hot water tank, and want to do the best job i can, but not waste $$. Any recommendations for quality hose ??. I do not wanna buy some chinese crap!!!!.

cheers and beers

Steve,

When I asked about the amount of hose six years ago, someone said "buy the box". I did. I have a 23' and I had about five feet left over. I guess the box is just right for a 26.

About the springs on the bends. As you don't have hot formed hose, they are essential. If you don't have them and you try to make the bends as tight as is required, the hose will kink flat and severely restrict the flow.

Hello Mat,
Thanks for the info, i read somewhere that a 50 ft length was about right. Perhaps that would be a little too much for a 26 foot?. I do not believe that the the OEM setup used coils, so i guess they were preformed ?. I do want to do a first class job. Then thats something, i do not have to worry about !!!.

cheers and beers

I do not believe that the the OEM setup used coils, the hose is bent into curves. I was never really pleased with that, so thats why this topic. Of course, i do want to do a first class job. Then thats something, i do not have to worry about !!!.

Here is how the factory originally did it:

I'm not sure when the factory stopped using this piece. I recreated this using copper plumbing parts.

Hello Steve,
Yep i like the earlier fitting they used, in your photos. Seems very sensible, and a lot easier to replace the hose. Never seen that before, you always learn something new on here.

cheers and beers

When I made my replacements I used the forward facing L's that have mounting ears (the kind used to bring the stubs out through the wall under sinks) so I would have something to tie down the pipes to limit vibration. If I was doing it again I would just use common L's and sleeve them with some heater hose where they go through the floor. I was worried about vibration but it turned out not to be a concern as those holes in the floor also go through the wheel well fender liner flange where it fits to the floor. After I got done sealing the wheel well liner to the floor with 3M 5200 those tubes are not going to vibrate. I just hope I never have to remove them.
