Hello again, 75 Eleganza II, new owner, first week. Okay, I think I've figured out how most of the features in my new GMC work, other than the waste system. I shut the drain valves, behind the kitchen sink, the water heater, and the drain beneath the curb side couch in the rear. Filled it from my house with no problem. I cracked the kitchen sink to let the air out and have water at kitchen, lav, and toilet. My problem is I can't figure out this toilet. It has a push button on the left hand side and a pull handle at the base of the bowl. I believe its a macerating toilet, judging by the grinding noise when I push the button. I turned the water valve on that sits to the right rear of the stool. I could hear the water running but nothing appeared in the bowl. Also, after running the water I now have a strong sewer smell in the head. Please advise or direct me to where I can find operational info on working this toilet. Also, where is the dump valve with the two retainers? The pic has a tire in it and I've looked all over the back on both sides and can't find it. I'm in Iowa. Thanks

Kelly,

It sounds like you have the same recirculating toilet that I have. These are very efficient, using less water than a conventional toilet, but they are used differently. First you must fill the toilet with water. You will notice a sight-glass on the front of the base that will show water as you fill it up - open the valve behind the toilet to fill with water - when it gets to the line marked on the sight-glass stop filling. Now if you push that button you will see water swirling into the bowl. This does also turn a macerator. After the toilet has been used a few times, or is full (see the sight-glass for level) then you pull that big handle on the bottom and all the water in the toilet flushes out to the black tank.

My sight-glass is rather dirty so I just fill it ’till I get the water wooshing in the bowl.

You have a Recirculating toilet just like the one below. http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-toilets-tanks/electra-magic-recirculating.htm

you need to "charge it" with plain water for it to work about 3 gallons. you may have a water tap near the back to do that with or just dump a couple of buckets in the bowl. there should be a sight gauge on the front to show you when it is "charged" and full. pull the handle at the bottom to dump to the main holding tank.

smell could be because the "p" traps are dry dump some plain water in the shower and both sinks.

Once you replace everything that is attached to something else. It will all be fixed.

dump valve is on the drivers side near the rear most wheel. you may need to almost get on the ground to see it.

I think u have a recirculating toilet. when u push the black button u should have aprox 3 gal of water in the unit, that is let in by u with the valve to the left of the toilet. If u keep pushing the button while the toilet is dry you will burn up the motor. Only push to operate after BM. There should be a sight glass on front of toilet, shows when to dump into main tank. I've used my toilet for 15yrs it gives u an extra 5 gallons holding, Good for a weekender.

Galen, you aren't very far from me at all, I live in West Des Moines. If you are ever in need of something to do, let me know, I'm sure I could fill a couple hours with questions.

That could be the pet cock to the water heater drain is open. U want to be sure ur water heater is full before u turn it on, all air out.
To do this is to open the bath rm faucet to relieve the air.

My coach has a drain near the water pump to get
the water out before winter freezes. Somebody
didn't open it on mine in the past. The plastic
filter had water in it that had frozen and cracked
the filter housing.

Kelly,
Any time feel free to give me a shout; be glad to help and share what little knowledge I've gained. We just got back from a quick overnight trip with ours...feels good to have things I've fixed work...especially having the generator to run the rooftop AC today.
