Just took my new work of art for it's maiden cruise. This is my first Motorhome, so I'm not real familiar with all the in's, out's and problems yet. Put about 140 miles on it, ran fine all the way. Got home, let it sit for a while, went back out to start it, turned the key and the air compressor kicked on before the engine started and kept running. Is this normal? The guy I bought it from had put a shrader valve on the curb side bag and disconnected the air line so it would stay up. The drivers side bag is connected normally and appears to be completely aired up. Any suggestions are appreciated. Or if this is normal, please let me know. Thanks alot

If the PO didn't plug the disconnected line, or if he did but it still leaks, and the curb side system leaked down a bit so it's now calling for air to raise back up, the pump will run. The system doesn't know the bag is disconnected so it's trying to get that side back up to the set point, or trying to get the system pressure to the shut off point. Hard to tell exactly what is going on without more information as to your system and control positions.

Please include your coach year and model as it will help troubleshoot problems such as this. Your name and location can help alot if you are close to a knowledgeable list member.

Welcome to the family/group/cult/asylum....

Please take Hals remarks to heart. There are many here that can offer valuable advice, but they have to know more about the coach and there are possibly others that might be willing to offer close-in assistance if they know where you are. We also use real names because we are real people that meet in real places and have real great times.

It sounds to me like PO did a less than world class fix. The majority of the coaches seem to still have Power Level. This system has two round knobs to the right of pilot's knee. These valves leak all the time, but are not all that difficult to service. JimK has the kits.

It also would not surprise me if the suspension compressor was in need of rebuilding or replacing. JimK has the kit for this also, but there are some better and quieter compressors available.

You will find that the coach becomes more a part of your life than just another thing you own. I liken it to the bond a waterman has with his boat. This is something I know well.

Finally, as you are a new owner and just now joining us, I like to welcome those new here much as you might be welcomed in the world of waterman.

Okay, finally had time to take a look at my air problem. It seems the PO decided that if the schrader valve wouldn't go in easy, he would force it in... Therefore I believe I have found my leak. With the female end of the airbag now being crossthreaded, is it possible to rethread this or am I going to be stuck buying new airbags? Thanks again for any advice.

I have some good news. The part that got cross threaded isn't actually part of the airbag.
I have some not so good news, it is an almost unavailable adapter that is screwed into the airbag.

It can probably be rethreaded. It is brass, and if you are careful, you can probably chase the threads back to where they should be. There are also thread repair inserts for 1/4 NPT.
