Need to contact John about a surge problem that I have with the electronic cruise control I just installed. Seems that every so often, it will surge. Just lasts less than a secopnd, but is a bit annoying. Is there any adjustment or other remedy for this problem?

Is this a "junk yard" CC? (from a GM... Delphi unit.) What are you using for a Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)?
I would suspect something in the VSS circuit. But to much change there (like a total loss of signal due to an intermittent wire) SHOULD cause the system to drop out not surge.
I would check the wiring and try an different unit.

Pat,
I've been using the Electromotor II cruise control for about as long as
John. Especially with an intermittent brief problem as you describe, I
wouldn't spend much time troubleshooting. At the price of the units
(should be about $15), I'd start by swapping out the CC. My original one
begin to act up after a couple of years. Since the problems began not long
after I replaced the carb. with EFI, I spent a lot of time tinkering with
throttle linkage locations, etc., to gain more stability. Nothing I tried
worked, so I finally swapped out the CC and the problems all went away. So
they DO fail, even after all the experience they have. :-)
No, there are no adjustments for the basic unit.

Pat,
I had a problem of the Delphi CC dropping out or not engaging. Fought that for quite a while, even replaced the CC unit. Finally found that the stop light disengage wire at the connector going into the CC was corroded. Cleaned that up and no more problems. Not sure the connector would cause surging but doesn't take much to take that connector off and spray some contact cleaner onto the contacts to see if that might solve the problem If the VSS feed on the connector was not good, it is possible that it might cause a surge.

I have not had that exact problem. I agree with the previous comments on this subject. However, I have noticed that if the cable is attached too far from the pivot point of the throttle plates, the cruise will be both sluggish to react and at times over-react to speed variations.

Pat,
Nonetheless, it might be worthwhile to run an EBL data log and hit the
space bar (which I understand will mark the file) when you have the surge.
It may indeed be some transient EFI condition you can't see on the WUD.

I can kinda confirm what Gary Mills stated about the speedometer cable.
Paul Jones was complaining about his Cruise control surgeing or hunting. I
looked at his speedometer cable, and the one from the transmission to the
transducer was melted from the heat of the headers. It had a high heat
insulating sleeve around the cable, but it was too loosely secured around
the cable, slid back and allowed the header heat to melt the outer cable
and melt away all the lube. I replaced his lower cable and secured the
insulating sleeve well, and he reported on his last trip to Levenworth, Wa
for the Cascader's Maifest rally that his cruise control worked very well.
Check your lower cables.
