I was working on my dash panel this week. I noticed I am missing 3 or
4 of the "Tell Tail Light Sockets". I have bulbs from a light cluster
that I pickled up at the Coop while I was there a couple of years ago.
The sockets are different. The cluster I acquired has the "Engine Water
Level" light. Mine does not. I guess it is from a newer model.
Would anyone have a few of the first generation Bulb Sockets? does
anyone know where I could get them?
Thanks for your assistance!

I have also found them in a late 80's Jeep Cherokee. (In fact the electrical connector for the Jeep tell-tale module is the same as the GMC.)
I am sure there are others...

I don't know if all years of the Volvos work but all I've checked did.

O'Reilly's has socket's with bulbs but they are $2.29 each. I needed too many to pay that price and ended up buying them here:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=me%3DAYJQPE17K2R2Z&field-keywords=pc74
Even with shipping, 10 were way less than O'Reilly's.

Gary, I have a "73" parts coach that is available for whatever parts you
need. Let me know.

I don't know if you've found these yet or not, but I just spent a cold winters night digging on the web for these a few months back after not being able to find them at the local auto parts stores or being able to order them locally. The tell tales on my 78 are 3/8" socket, and the ones at the local stores were all 1/2" or 5/8" and priced at ~$3 for two. I think the speedo cluster takes larger ones than the tell tales.
I finally found a source on ebay for a package of 6 for what ended up being $10 as a winter trip to the salvage yard was out and I work all week....for my money and time the $10 bucks was ok. I have 3 left if you want them. Shoot me an address and I'll mail them if you like. Here's the source on ebay I bought from if you need more than 3 and can't find them anywhere else. For future reference (in case this link dies) the sellers ebay id is altha3 (I have no affiliation - they're just an easy and cheap source, you may find others - I could not)

edit: should have read a little better...my sockets may not work, but maybe this info can help someone else.

Did you try going to a U-Pull yard & look for an early 70's Chevy or GMC full-size pickup? GM being the way it is, I'd think they'd use what they already have in inventory. I think that's where I got mine.

""Richard,
While the thought is good. Gary (like I) lives in Michigan. Here, they spread "fender solvent" all over the roads all winter long. Any 70's vintage GM anything not in a collection has been either intentional or organically recycled by now. Trust me, I keep looking.
Matt ""
So true Matt. When I moved to AZ I was totally amazed at how good the old cars look underneath. The underbody paint looks like new and many of the bar code tags are still on them. Beacause of that the pick and pulls still have 60's vintage cars in them.

The only white sockets I know of are for Halogen bulbs and go in a 1/2 dia. hole. My 84 Vette has these for it's instrument panel. What is the part number of the bulbs you have? Can you post a picture of the bulb and socket you have? Here's a link that might be helpful in determining what socket you need.
