My royale had been sitting in the driveway for about 5 months over the winter. When I went to move her, noticed the transmission was slipping. Big puddle under the tranny so I topper her up (down over 2 qts) and moved her twenty feet away.
Because of a medical condition I wasnt allowed to drive for 6 weeks. During those 6 weeks not a dropped leaked out.
Finally today I got her on the road for a 10 mile test drive. She shifted good and temp was about 190 for the first 8 miles then rose to 225 for the last two. I let her idle for a couple minutes and the temp went to 250. Checked the fluid level and was still full.
Last fall when I bought the royale from Stick and drove it back from Atlanta (900 miles) the transmission temp never rose past 195 degrees.
My first question is why would the transmission fluid leak over the winter and not during the past 6 weeks? Would the transmission leak be related to the rise in temperature or are these two seperate issues?
I would appreciate any comments.

I'd be looking for the temp problem first. Low coolant or stuck thermostat comes to mind.

Ross,
I agree with Ken B about the temperature -- it's probably independent of
the transmission problem.
The torque converter (attached to the engine flywheel) is full of
transmission fluid (ATF) and sit above everything else in the transmission.
While there's a check valve to prevent that fluid from draining down into
the transmission pan, it's not perfect and most of them leak slowly. Over
the winter, several quarts of fluid could have leaked into the pan. Since
the normal fluid level in the pan is near the flange where it attaches to
the transmission housing, extra fluid will sit above the gasket and can
stimulate a leak. A leak can also develop around the O-ring on the
modulator (just above the pan flange at the right rear of the
transmission). It's not something to worry much about unless the leak
persists when you're using the coach frequently.
Hope you're doing much better with the medical condition.

As a newbe I get a little paranoid with my new toy. It is a great help you experienced members pass on your pearls of wisdom to others.
I topped up the antifreeze yesterday and plan another test drive this morning. Hopefully the trans temp will drop.
Thanks again....Ross

OOoops! Ross, I misunderstood your temperature readings! I didn't catch
that you were reading TRANSMISSION temps! They ARE too high. I would not
expect to see anywhere near 190*F even out of the converter (which would be
about 50*F higher than in the pan) until after a much longer drive than you
took. Better get that checked out.
Sorry for the misleading information.

I write it off as the lazy man's partial trans fluid change. Confirm that coolant level as 100%. Does the engine temp track to some degree with the trans temp? However if coolant is low the temp gauge reading can be reading air and vapor and not correct.

I must had a brain f*rt yesterday. The transmission temp started at 90 degrees not 190 as I stated and went up to 150 at idle.
Today on the test drive trans temp went up to 130 while driving and again up to 150 at idle. The engine temp didn't go over 170.
As I mentioned yesterday on the trip from Atlanta she didnt go over 95 degrees.

Those look good. My trans temp is highest at idle.

Sir: If you have any doubts, have the filter and fluid changed and catch a clean 2 oz in a sterile container and have an analysis done. Best $12 you will spend. Any city has oil analysis labs ask any local big truck dealer. The lab I use in Knoxville calls me in 1 HOUR with results and explains what is going on,with hard copy mailed. I file the receipts under preventive maintenance.
