I'm redoing both the inner and outer cv joints and after reading the maintenance manual x7525, I can't find anywhere how much grease to use. I know to use a good moly grease but do you fill the ball cavity and the boot? Would over filling lead to failure?
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Cleaned out with mineral spirits and followed with lacquer thinner, no chips, cracks, discoloration. Should be good to go.

John,
If you pack the joint cavities completely, that is adequate.
Not only is it difficult to fill the boot, it isn't necessary.
If you could fill both solidly with grease, it would not be likely to cause a failure of the joint, but it would almost certainly cause the boot to leak. Those things don't seal all that well with the best installation, so challenging them with excess grease will likely only cause a mess that you can easily avoid.
One of my front drive cars had a note in the service manual and it said to empty the pre-measured grease packet into the boot OR pack the joint and put a 25cc glob of grease in the boot. I never figured any good way to measure a 25cc glob.

John,
IMHO:
1) Valvoline Synpower is the best grease to use.
2) Fill the CV joint bowl, no need to put it in the boot there's nothing
there that needs lubrication.

John,
When I redid my boots I followed the directions that came with the boot kits. Check out this picture and my comments with it. The kit came with 2 packages of grease in each and the instructions said, "one package of grease goes in the joint, the other goes in the boot".

I know Bob,
I just followed the instructions and the grease packets that came with the kit. And I never heard that axle asking for any more.

I recently bought some reman axles from Advance Auto and switched the "rebuilt" CV joints to my old axles. The CV joints came with the cavities packed full of grease but none in the boot.
