Not being expert in anything, I searched the Internet and found a comment that the paste included with the Modules from the Auto Parts stores is not Thermal Compound, but Dielectric Grease which is used for conductivity not Thermal cooling. It was suggested that by not using the proper compound the life of the Module was reduced.

Richard,
The Dielectric grease is a good grease to use as it does provide for
the proper cooling of the module. There are other available that have
other adders that may provide more thermo transfer the Dielectric
grease but as long as there is no air gap under the module the grease
with move the heat to the distributor shell. I presently use a
dielectric grease.

G'day,

KenB advised that Radio Shack sells "Arctic Silver" which is a grease that
is used between PC CPU's and their heat sinks.

I recently rebuilt a spare distributor and that's what I used.

Rob, Rob, Rob…. I find it hard to believe, and saddened by the fact, that you and KenB have fallen for the marketing hype that “Arctic Silver” is a superior thermal grease and SO MUCH BETTER!!!!

When in fact, and for only a mere ~20% difference in performance, that Lipstick, Toothpaste, Diaper Ointment, and Butter work just as well.

And for all you BBQr'S out there.... Mayonnaise and Mustard work even BETTER.

Therefore, based on cost & availability, I would say they are SUPERIOR PRODUCTS!!!!

And for you doubters out there, I support my claims with the following exhaustive research:

Carl,

No worries, Mate, I'm not like some of the people here who can't stand to be
questioned or criticized! ;-)

As a matter of fact I was really hoodwinked! Radio Shack sell two other
compounds BOTH of which are cheaper I picked the Arctic Silver cause I
figger'd that since it was more EXPENSIVE it was better!

This PROVES that I DEFINETLY have more money than sense! ;-)

Thanks for test results! I LOVE having HARD DATA to compare.

BTW I spoke for myself, I only mentioned KenB because I didn't want him to
think I was taking credit for something he suggested. Hmmmmm maybe I should
have at least he wouldn't have caught flak too! ;-)

Regards,
Rob M.

PS - what does noi stand for?

Rob,

Given your aptitude in this area, the choice cannot be considered not overkill. Just a good choice for best outcome and highest reliability.

I have about six flavors of heat sink grease that are doled out based mostly on cost to replace and reliability desired.

Tom,

The article is BRILLIANT! Especially when he talks about toothpaste and
Vegemite.

For those of you who have not attended a GMCMI Convention where one of we
Aussies have provided a sample of Vegemite it's a staple of the Australian
diet. Australians are raised on it like Americans are raised on peanut
butter. It is a yeast paste. However, it seems it does not suit the American
pallet.

Peter & Kay Bailey (Fair Dinkum Aussies) curried favor at the Shawnee
Convention by bringing a bunch of Tim Tams and putting them out for the
attendees to sample. They went over BIG TIME and everybody loved them!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Tam

So what does this have to do with the Ignition Module, not a BLOODY thing,
just rambling on! ;-)

Regards,
Rob M.

Rob,

Before installing any ignition module, if a morning task have a Pork Roll
(Taylor Ham or Case) and egg sandwich on a hard roll add cheese if you
like. If afternoon NJ pizza or Jimmy Buff's.

Naw. It hardens too much and sets up like epoxy, making subsequent
removal of the part impossible without a plasma cutter.

Rick,

The Aussie that did a bunch of test did try Vegemite and mayonnaise! He
noted they worked too.

However, he commented that they worked because they were "wet" and once they
dried out validated your comments below.

I'm telling you guys that if you spread it REAL thin on buttered toast it is
nice.
