[GMCnet] Safe Driver Course [message #168040]

I recently took the on-line AARP Driver Safety Course. www.aarp.org/ADSandThe Hartford
It cost $15.95 and it took 4 hours to complete on the Internet.

My insurance company in NM has now given me a $61.00 discount on my auto insurance.
My insurance company in Colorado (I have on car registered there now) has given me a 10% discount.
My motorhome insurance company is also going to be giving me a discount but I don't know the dollar amount yet.

Economically this is a very good thing to do plus perhaps some of the course will sink in and make me a more cautious driver.

Emery, I was kinda expecting another deal like the Home Depot wallet
lifting scam. I was surprised that this message was on the level. We all
could benefit from cheaper insurance, now if we could only teach those 4
wheelers to take it too. I had a clown in a Mazda Miata decide to exit CA
580 from the third lane, which wouldn't have been too bad except he just
slid over in front of my GMC and then came to a stop. I was going about 70
mph at the time and the traffic was moderately heavy. I got to test out my
braking system and the horn circuit at the same time. The jerk woke up saw
the impending doom, and got the hell out of my way. Woke me up for sure.
Thank god for defensive driving and increased following distance.

Glad to hear the safety course is working out well for someone. We
(Shirley and I) both took the same course in October of 2011 for our
"discount" here in Florida at our agent's suggestion as well. We both
spent 8 hours (each) taking the course and would love to know how you
managed to get it to allow you to complete it in 4. Not only was it
boring, it was so frustrating to sit there and have to "listen" to the
music after you had already read the information and would have loved
to click forward to answer but the program would not let us. Maybe
they have improved their online version after enough people complained
- us included. Anyway, after spending the 16 hours taking the course
and $32 total in cost - we saved a whopping $2.00 each year for 3
years on all our insurance policies. Even our agent was embarrassed
when she figured out how little we saved. So it obviously depends on
which state you are in. I would highly recommend checking with your
agent first before taking the course and see if they can give you an
estimate on what you might save.

I had called my NM insurance agent for the automobile before I signed up for the course and was told that I would save $61.00 each year for three years.
Getting my Colorado insurance and my motorhome insurance was an added bonus.

I was told that since I only had one auto insured in Santa Fe that it would not be necessary for my wife to take the course.

The AARP on-;ime course is 4 hours and there is no way to advance the pages any quicker as they have it timed so that you have to stay on the page until they let you go to the next no matter how fast a reader you are.
