There's no need to mess with URL shorteners.
All you really have to do is put the ebay "item number" (in this case, 140744866242) in your message.
If you Google that number, you will get the ebay listing as the first or only result. It also works for package tracking numbers from UPS, FedEx, etc.
In Chrome and Firefox, just double-click on the number, right-click, choose "Search Google for..." and you're there.

Hi Rob: with windows hilight the # and a little blue arrow appears, click on it and choose add excellerators, add ebay. from then on just hilight the # click on the blue arrow and ebay will preview or click and go to.
