Gene,

You're welcome! It's all good now! The videos and photos makes it possible
to attend in absentia!

The letter from Alex Birch about their one month 7000 mile trip in August '73 was really interesting!
http://birchaven.wordpress.com/

Its amazing how many issues they had back then that are still common today. Vapour lock, pressure in the fuel tanks, lost steering and brakes when stalled and high FD ratio (he recommended 3.36).

Its a great read!

Oh wow, What a read from Mr. Alex's adventures. Thanks for sharing that with us. He could have benefitted from modern led lights. Smile
Thought I was only one having trouble with the link. Glad yall got it fixed.

G'day,

That was an interesting read, I agree with Bruce, it was amazing to read all
the problems Alex had with what was ostensibly a NEW GMC!

Regards,
Rob M.

It was really interesting reading this report...

A few things that stuck out to me..

-- they recharged the Freon in the roof air conditioner. I had read that all the roof ac units were sealed with no OEM provision for refrigerant addition.

-- mention of the air bag (bellows) failure. "It was not the latest version, hot dogged and folded" I have read about the cone angle being changed (and changes from plastic to aluminum) but never about a version change.

-- 4 quarts of engine oil in 7000 miles. Didn't seem to be a concern -- now days someone would be thinking rebuild. Wonder if it was the issue of oil dipstick calibration or the last quart blowing out quickly.

-- the Onan used more oil than the engine.

-- the front axle seal that fell off -- do you think he was talking about the CV boot band?

-- what did he mean about turning off the refrigerator before starting the Onan or you would blow a fuse?

Dennis

Bob, that made me chuckle out loud.
Dennis, it must have been the boot. That is all I can figure.
