Saw a quick flash on the LA news an hour ago. It said they were closing down the Harbor Freeway in the heart of the city tonight till 5 AM to add Toll boths. Whats with that??

Thanks Harry another good reason I left that area . I never imagined that they would add toll booths or fast track in the heart of the congested city of LA.

I'm tempted to withhold my comments because they may be interpreted as
political rant over every facet of that plan -- I find every objection
mentioned to be completely valid. Not to mention the spending of Federally
borrowed tax dollars to fund the stupid experiment. Both the left and the
right SHOULD oppose it. And what happens to non-residents without the
transponders? While I WILL NOT be subjected to that particular outrage,
I'm afraid the disease will spread.

I was recently in Minneapolis and was surprised to see this approach in use. In speaking with the locals, they seem to like it. I realize MPS is no LA but it does have its traffic nightmares.

The disease >has< spread - to I 85 north of Atlanta. Except local tax money was used to build pay lanes which the DOT now acknowledges will not pay out the cost. So, you and I subsidize those who pay to drive solo on them while congestion is not reduced N of town. However, I >can< get a transponder for the GMS and tell them I'm running 3 up and travel the lanes for free if I wish to put up with the hassle.

leaving la for tornados, hurricanes, rain, snow, floods, mud, no sun 9 months a year, no surf, skiing 2 hours away,
lots of pretty women, rich people to help pay you everywhere, lots of food cheap from all over the world from
the ships coming in, no heating bills and a/c bills. No ocean to fish in, islands 26 miles away to go
camp and skin dive with 100 foot vis, good idea. not good for the gmc with all that bad weather.
I did not mention get a add on tv and make 100k a year for standing in line to be picked, sun, sun sun, and more sun.
here comes the sun, little darling, here comes the sun again. I think l.a. is not so bad myself, but for each their peach.

Toll roads are about making money and nothing else!
Follow the money...into a politician's pocket!
Yes the equipment will be paid for over, but the toll will never be removed
and the motorists will be paying for the toll and the gas taxes forever. It
is a big deal because a person can only be asked to bend over so many times
and then they get tired of the abuse!

i agree toll roads are made for toll, and most the time go over seas just like everything else. That don't change the weather.
a california car is like a california person less wear and tear. The politicians are voted by the persons ability to vote for the right person.
blame the voter not the system. I agree - in many ways we agree. Education of the voters are the problem without the propaganda.
I never take a toll road i protest them by not spending money on them if i can help it. I dropped a person on one the other day
i made about $60 and got a fine for $59 for missing the money box that was hidden on the side of the road. really could not see it.
If you do not pay they take your car off the road.

Kalifornia has been selling passes for single occupied vehicles to use the
HOV lanes for quite a while. If you can afford to pay, you can play,
otherwise, just stay in the congested lanes with the rest of the pikers.

of the Constitution justifies all sorts of nonsense control of our lives,
yet does not protect out-of-state taxpayers from being prohibited to use
the HOV lanes -- which they paid for?
Gotta tell y'all -- I'm more than a little disgusted with the whole
government thing.
