Thanks Carl. I did ask JimK, but maybe it was too dumb a question.
The manual wasn't much help on the issue.

Since I just want to stick with a 3.07 (we already have the 3.5 power drive),
think I'll try to find a good core to have rebuilt with limited slip added.
Pretty sure I can pull and reinstall the final drive as a whole,
but doubt I can do anything sensible with the innards.

Ah well, the ever growing wish list...

thanks,
Karen

> Again, I'm not an expert on anything here, but I don't think there is a way to add the limited slip components to the differential carrier without removing the carrier from the housing. Some aftermarket "lunch box lockers" can be added to a carrier in certain conventional drivetrain axles on four wheel drives, without removing the carrier, but most require the ring gear to be removed in order to access the pins that hold the diff gears in place. I suspect the differential needs to be completely dis-assembled to install the limited slip parts. Again, check with Jim K. I don't believe these components are available from any other source anyway.

Either way, I wouldn't see any way to do this in the vehicle. Bottom line, the FD does need to come out to accomplish this.

That's definitely your best bet. Setting up a differential is a pretty specialized operation. It's probably not all that difficult, but not something most trained mechanics will even tackle. It has to be just right.

Very busy weekend. So I'm late to this conversation. When I picked up my LS 3.70 FD @ JimK's Eastern Region Mega Manufacutring and Distribution Center I had the opportunity to observe the internals when Walt pulled the LS FD cover. I was shown the LS bits and the required machining of the FD inards that allowed the bits to fit. I was very impressed with both the FD and awesome technical expertise.

I was going to swap out the FD myself especially after Ray E. gave me such great advice. No time available on my schedule so I had Zeb Frady do the job which he did in under a week.

Best way to go is to have the boys @ Applied swap out your unit. JimK will figure out the commercial details.

Most of the final drive units we get back as core are on the last
legas fare as the pinon bearing is concerned .
Since we now ship out the Final Drives fron Ohio, we save time and freight.
We are also using Fed Ex and tapered of on UPS.
