Shirley Rowe contacted me the other day to let me know that she is putting her coach up for sale due to the recent passing of her husband George.
Some on here may be familiar with this coach, as the Rowes were long-time members of the GMC Great Lakers. It is one of the first GMCs ever produced, with a low TZE (a little help here Shot) and certain elements found only on some of the early prototypes, per Bill Bryant. George completely re-did the interior, with hand-crafted oak cabinets, along with all the standard mechanical upgrades (including dash air).
Shirley is considering listing it with Buddy Bethune, but in the meantime, if anyone would like information, please contact her son Darryl at seven-three-four-634-two33seven.

So sorry to hear of George's passing. In 1998 that coach won Best Original
GMC at a International Convention, celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the
GMC.
One fact has become apparent to me since buying our 1st GMC in early '76.
People seem to come and go while the GMC remains.

Ain't that the truth. I wish I could have met the guy that did the work on my coach before I got it. And I mean that in a nice way!

So sorry to hear of Georges passing, he and Shirley were long time GMCers.
Theirs was a very early 1973 GMC, #4 (0024) sold to the public. Gary Cottingame had the first (0021), believe (0023) is around but forgot who owns it. That brings to mind a funny story, at least funny to me. We were at the GMCMI Boerne,TX rally in 1997 and it may have been the first time I had a chance to check out a very early production GMC MH. George was showing us around, a small group had gathered and he was explaining that this was the earliest one known and he mentioned TZE #0024. Someone in the crowd said, "mine is earlier, its #0023". The VIN plates were checked and sure enough, within probably 20 feet were two of the earliest GMCs. Felt sorry for George, he no longer could claim, "the earliest" and I sensed his disappointment, but it was still very close.
George & Shirley won the 1973 GMC MH "Peoples Choice" award. Rudy & Bobby Domingo won the award for "Best Original". The reason for the 2 awards was to honor both nice original coaches as well as ones that had been modified. Originals were judged by a team of judges, Peoples Choice was determined by ballots from attending GMCers.
Great memories, great folks,
