Well I finally got all the BS work done around the "estate" that had been slowing down my work on the GMC. (Primarily putting a ceiling and insulation into the barn. Got it done on the first day I didn't need to run the heat in there, go figger.) So now that I've got heat I no longer need I got to work on the GMC. Front clip had been pulled last fall and I now got the engine off of it. I was over at the engine builder last Oct and determined I would use him and what would be done. Stopped over last week to finalize the work and schedule and found out he had a fire in the shop early November. Fortunately no damage to his equipment or any customers parts but it set him back. He expects to restart work before the end of April and at that time we will determine when I can get mine scheduled. At this time he thinks he'll get it done in time for me to get it back in and get to Amana.

The front subframe has been completely stripped of parts is off at the restoration place for paint and rust stripping and E-coat painting. That will be back at the end of the month. Roaring into cleaning and painting all the removed parts and insulating the engine compartment and upgrading the wiring.

I said to the engine builder I wanted to be present for the dismantling. I wanted to see what the intake turkey tray carbon was like and what was going on in the dead cylinder. He said if I wanted I could pull the intake and head myself as it wouldn't make any difference to what he was going to do. I may just do that.

So some of you may be wondering how his shop could burn and not damage any equipment or parts. His shop was originally built as a one story flat roof. Later the PO added a second story that was used for storage. The fire was in this second floor area. When it the second floor was added the original flat roof was not stripped but just build over. The fire did not penetrate this flat roof and all the water used to fight the fire ran off the roof and did not come through the ceiling onto the equipment. So for right now everything is in shipping containers while the shop is being rebuilt. So this was a double PO, poor construction practices was the cause of the fire but also saved the equipment.
