Can I get away with a 3/4 maserator hose or do I have to go a full 1" ?
If 1" where are you getting that size?

Thanks

Hi ,

Not sure about 3/4" ... I bought 1" sanitary hose .. black fibery stuff I've
never seen before ... from a boat supply place . Also got a threaded plug
for the end so there are no dribbles when traveling .

Hi Mike

I have been using 3/4" hose for years with no problem. In fact I once put 100 ft of 5/8 on the end of it to reach a sewer clean out and it pumped fine.

I bought a 50' red rubber high quality garden hose and cut.it in half. I mounted the cut end to the pump with the male fitting at the end. I then stored it in a 1-1/4" 20 foot long PVC pipe mounted alongside the drivers side frame. I put a plastic cap on the end of the hose to keep my PVC pipe clean on the inside.

I store the cut hose with the female fitting under the propane tank and attach it to the end of the macerator hose when I need more length.

3/4" is no problem.

I used a 1-1/4 x 1 plastic threaded bushing at the pump and threaded in a 1" threaded x 3/4" barbed fitting that I bought in home Depots garden sprinkler dept (you won't find it in the plumbing dept)

HI Mike;
I recently installed the macerator kit from Jim K in our 77 Kingsley. Then
took the coach down to Disneyland
with my wife, youngest daughter and her 4 teenagers (our grandchildren)
along for the ride. Needless to say
that the bathroom got full treatment. The Macerator worked like a dream.
I use the hose Jim supplies.
It's a tough reinforced green tinted/clear plastic. And it does come out
in a nice brown liquid - need I say more!
We have a 77 Eleganza that Denny Allen had installed his version of the
Macerator on. What I liked about how he did the
stand-by dump system (just in case the Macerator fails (and it did once due
to the ground wire coming loose) was he had a swivel joint that allowed the
PVC pipe to ride high and when needed you would reach under and remove the
rubber strap and it would swing down. So when I hooked up the one in the
Kingsley I tried several RV dealers and Home Depot plus a major plumbing
supplier for this 3" PVC swivel joint - no one ever heard of it. So I
installed the 3" straight back - just shy of the framing for the tow
framing. I didn't have to use it and hope not too. I also went over some
irregular pavement sections where the rear end dragged but not enough to
challenge the drain. (when we picked up this coach in Chicago last June
the PO had taken the Macerator off and had the 3" angled and attached to
the underside of the frame at a location just under the generator. It was
too low in many cases and lost 3 caps in the trip plus scrapped the bottom
of the end so badly it opened up a hole that let the brown stuff leak onto
the ground.

Mike
we are planning the across Canada trip this August/September. Have DJ
Eberhard and Jim Hupy planning on being along. for more info you can email
me at dwayne.jacobson@gmail.com

I seemed to have the same problem. Could not find a hose locally that I cared for. unless i wanted 75 or 100 feet of it.

Jim K hooked me up with the correct hose.

If you want to use 1 inch -- I found it in 20 ft lengths in the garden dept of Lowes; in the outdoor fish pond section.
The outside corrugation prevents it from crimping.

You can buy 3/4 inch hose at any lumber yard or tractor supply. Farmers use it on spray rigs. They have all sizes. My 1 inch was too hard to handle so I went to 3/4 clear several years ago. Have used 1/2 inch for short distances.

Mike,

The bottom line is yeahbut.

The smaller the id the longer it will take to pump out your tank and the
harder the macerator will have to work.

I got some 1" ID hose from:

Yeah but

It takes me about 3-1/2 minutes to pump a full tank. Probably not much more than you do with a 1" hose.

We do a lot of camping and my pump has lasted for several years

Maybe but I dont really buy that. Takes me 3 minutes flat to dump a full tank with my 15 ft. hose. If one was pumping a long distance, then 1 inch would be better. Just a lot easier to handle a smaller hose.

The gauntlet has been dropped! We will have to have a "pump out" to see
which tank gets emptied faster at Amana!

If it draws enough interest we could make it a regular event at GMCMI
Conventions!

Naturally it would have to be held after the Chili Cook-offs, Ice Cream
Socials and cheese cake tastings! ;-)

Regards,
Rob M.

I carry 10 ft. extension of 1/2 inch hose with me. Used it once I think. No more chili cookoffs, I heard. Might be soup cookoff next. I worked on my macerator twice yesterday. I carry a spare and the spare just hummed when I installed it so had to put the other one back on. Had a small drip I fixed. With a 12 volt gate at the tank I was not worried about leaking but I hate to see anything drip when using it.
Anyway, a 1 inch hose will work just fine. I am not going to enter the contest or be the time keeper. You dump your's and I will dump mine. I will conceed that you are faster.
Life was great at the convention.

Ask Terry Skinner about the great mascerator distance porta pottie painting
competition. I understand that a mascerator pump with a garden hose
attatched, fitted on the end with a nozzle can spray "stuff" a considerable
distance. I was not there, but have heard the story.
