Currently working on Ken Peterson's GMC and it is equipped with the Version
II Hubler 1 ton as well as some fiberglas front wheel opening flares. As
the mfg did not identify his product, I can only speculate as to when or by
whom they were made. With the combination of spacers, wheels, and tires,
there is interference between the tire and flares. The field expedient
repair is to take the die grinder and a rotary file, and clearance the
flares. This leaves an unfinished edge and looks a bit "jury rigged". Not a
look I would care to have my name associated with, if I could avoid it. The
particular flare has less clearance on the rear of the opening than it does
on the front of the opening. My question is this. Are these flares still
being produced. I was aware of someone named Frank that produced them a
while back, but I have seen pictures of his online, and they do not appear
to have the same contour that these do. But camera angles being different,
It could be the way I am looking at it. I will take and post some pictures
on the photo site and see if they ring a bell with anyone. Thanks in

RIght. I have Frank's flairs all around and did have to trim the front
ones. The cuts are not really obvious unless you're looking for them.
This seems to be about the best photo I have posted of the RF one (with
scratch). It was made years ago so doesn't show my latest butchery, but
should enable one to tell whether they match others. I'm pretty sure this
is the only pattern Frank uses. He's at Shawnee right now & doesn't much
like email, so call him next week if you need to discuss them.

Thanks Ken, I saw your pix on the photo site, but they looked a bit
different than the ones this coach has installed. I got my dremel tool and
a coping saw out and took care of it today. The area I trimmed is behind
the tire and way low to the ground. Kinda like your pix. As these 1 ton
conversions become more popular, perhaps Frank might want to recontour the
wheel opening on his molds so the lip is pulled back enough to clear it
too. Just a suggestion, not a criticism. Those flares are better than the
GMC front end from what I can see.

I hope to see Frank within the next month or so. I'll show him what I had
to do. MAYBE he'll make a change the next time he needs new molds. Then
again, he might do it soon, just so he'll have something to harass me
about: Many years ago I convinced him that he needed to offer rear flares
on which the between-wheels descender was not removable. After he made
molds and sold me a pair of the flares, it was at least a couple of years
before he sold another. Man, did I ever catch it from him every time he
had a chance! :-) I think maybe he's sold enough now to forgive me and be
ready for another excuse. Or maybe someone at Shawnee will have the same
problem and complain to him.
