I think there was a thread or posts about these in the past...
http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/rvs/2917767772.html
Replacement air bags for the GMC. I like the idea of have a bag that if it blows/fails I can still drive it. Sorry if there is a thread let me know, otherwise have anyone used these?

I looked at them in Mesa and decided against them. The bags aren't designed for the type of application that we use them in. The Mono bag that JimK sells is the closest to OEM and can be changed out in about 15 minutes. The likelihood of blowing a relatively new bag is pretty remote but I think Jim would sell you a spare to carry as well. I installed the Silvertone bag, but I don't know exactly how it differs from the Mono bag, other than name. Otherwise they look identical. PM me if you want to come up and look mine over.

Was there something specific that you didn't like? Meaning did you test drive them? Didn't like the construction? They are uncomfortable? I'm wondering. I watched the YouTube and they seemed pretty nice. The big idea I like is driving if the bag blows. I know its rare it would happen, honestly not super concerned that it would happen often. But if it did, still driving with ease is a nice thought. Let me know more if you have any specifics.

I like them a lot, so just put them on my 73/23
what I liked
1 schrader and shut-off included
2 can drive with bags down (get off the road)
3 lower limited - so my tires will never again destroy wheel liners
4 good price $600 for both sides , with schraders ($1600 for an OEM bag and
cones + schraders)
5 15 min install (took me hour ;>)
6 am going to extenders so 100 lb will raise to 4 inches (wireless air)
7 small volume - fast response - with a small pump
8 easily available bag

I really know little about this, but I also saw the bags were easy to come by. Let me ask since I'm clueless about this. Lets say you did need to replace the bag this system comes with. With this system, you just buy new bags (they seem really available) and can replace this blown bag easily?
#6 am going to extenders? What did that mean?
A system like this I also think would be nice if I bought wireless air. I have pretty darn new OE bags and for the prices I have seen them go for I maybe able to sell them and offset the cost. My bags are perfect. They are covered and haven't gotten sun. Right now they are covered in Armafoil.

I think what made the OEM bag unique (sounds like a eulogy, eh?) was the reinforced monocoque design, meaning the shell was what bore the load. In order to stabilize the load and accommodate the slight arc (hot doggin') that is inherent in the OEM air suspension, they used cones on either end. We don't have those big bags anymore, so folks have tried various methods to replicate or in some cases improve the air bag design.
Silvertone/Mono - Uses one cone on one side and one plate on the other. Close to OEM
Sullybilt - Uses plates on both ends with a spacer to allow for the arc.
Q-Bag - Uses 2 bags in series with a center stabilizing frame that keeps both bags from pushing directly against each other. A somewhat independent suspension which would allow for limited driving on a single bag.
These bags from AZ (I can't recall the name). They use a bag squished between the bogie arms and rely on the seam of the bag to absorb any side loads from the arc. These bags seem similar to ones found on a low rider and while technically rated to carry the load, they look like they were designed to be mounted vertically and just lift a small amount. The big spacers on either end make up for a bag that's just not big enough. I know most of the load is transmitted for and aft directly through the bag, but how much side-to-side load does it take over time to cumulatively add up to enough to cause the bag to fail.
I like it simple and stoutly built and I don't need the improvement of independent suspension, so I went with the Silvertone.

Randy, the Sullybilt system has a cone on one end, the bag diameter is larger than oem. The "spacer" is actually a standoff to obtain the correct travel range from the bag for the GMC.

AND
speaking of this new bag, you have a rare chance to incorporate holes for a
"bag-lifter" option.
http://goo.gl/vFHa6
http://goo.gl/C4V4N
this allows a 30# reduction in bag pressure, which is a big help with the
wireless air , direction we will be going to in the future.

In the list of bag replacements, here are two you omitted from the list. I am sure there are others, since fabbing a mounting plate for modern truck single air bags does not appear to be a very big deal, just as long as you do it before you need them. Hate to need it and not have it on some very long streaches of road, think Interstate between Fort Stockton, TX and El Paso, TX. Thinking a spare air bag may be as important as a spare tire, maybe more so.
Add to the list:
Leigh Harrison's four bag system. First to be designed, over 400 installed to date.
Single bag system by Hubert Rowell, shown at GMC Dixielander Rally, in Fall of 2011.

Has anyone done a comparison of Silvertone vs Sully vs Quadrabag, comparing air pressure and up/down adjustment range?
Just asking.... I like the stock suspension travel.

I can't find the link, but I thought Mickie and Miguel had another bracket
design that incorporated a short length of pipe welded to a backing plate
with four or three gudgeons welding the pipe to the backing plate for extra
support.
