Greetings:

Just finished doing some repair work on my inner frame and posted some pictures that might help someone else in the future or give them a starting point idea – While work is not “pretty” Rolling Eyes , it should do the job!

The patch was an “L” cut out of a piece of 2 x 4 1/8” wall rectangular steel tubing and trimmed to fit and cover as few holes as possible.

Good to see you welded it on both sides.

What caused the damage in the first place?

Greetings:

I can not speak for all 23’/rear baths, but….

On mine, the gray tank was in “front” of the cut cross member (example):

http://www.appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/903

And the black tank was “behind” the cut cross member (example):

http://www.appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/895

In order to drain the gray tank, seeing as the black tank was now in the way of the “center” discharge cutout:

Necessitated the cutting the frame Crying or Very Sad

As I will only be putting back in a single “waste” tank (example):

http://www.appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/837

Figured I might as well strengthen the cross member while I had the inner frame out and it was easy to do!

I will save the RANT about how the lower body lateral frame supports were BUTCHERED Mad to get the Onan Generator in, and what it took to "fix" them, for another day.

I had the same problems.  On the frame I procured a crossmember and cut a section to fit exactly the missing part.  Then welded it in place.  Not as strong as your fix but it should hold considering there was nothing before.  To bad the frame butcher didn't at least tie the cutout piece to the frame.  The rest of your frame looks pretty good compared to some I've seen.

I thought the body cutout for the Generator was a factory job although yours looks sloppier than mine.  I'd like to rebuild mine and use a smaller generator so I'm interested in seeing what you did.
