More like 100 I think..El Paso to LasCruces is about 40 and LC to Deming
about 60...I THINK. Mind you I haven't been there this winter so things
may have changed. <VBG>
Sean, check with Hal in LC and find out who he would recommend...he's on
the Black list. If you are paying too much have the dealer deliver for the
sale price.
You can also call Marcel in El Paso and see what he recommends....also on
the Black List

Maybe I read your post wrong but I recommend AAA PLUS with RV. 100 mile a day tow with a RV. If you have normal AAA the RV part can be added. I think it takes 3 days to activate.

Not an AAA member yet, but that sounds promising. Do you know if AAA
would cover towing a non-operational RV from a dealership?
And how firm is that 100-mile limit? The dealership is actually past
the east side of El Paso, and Google says the total mileage is 106.

That's an interesting angle. Allstate also has an RV plan that has almost unlimited miles to the best qualified facility. Luckily I've never had to use it yet.

Aaa. Will tow it the 100 miles. It does have to have current plates. A friend has used aaa to tow a junker once. He put plates from a friends truck on it so tabs were current.
I did not tow my gmc home that way because the shape it was in was pretty obvious it was not ever road worthy. Cracked tires. Deflated air bags.
Tow company does not ask many questions. They usually just want the tow. You have to talk smart to the aaa guy.

He should have put some spare outer axle ends and nut in place of the axle assemblies. Otherwise the hubs could have separated from the knuckles and made things very interesting.

I had AAA tow a parts car recently that was a lemon. The tow company wants to get paid for a tow. They have never questioned me, I don't ever volunteer much info however. Just tell them "yea its pretty bad I think its blown up" I've had AAA with RV many years and have never had any issue at all. AAA is one company, the tow company another. AAA calls the tow company and they want to get paid for a tow. They like long tows since its a easy pay check. The 100 mile rule is pretty hard core however. They are pretty firm about that. But that just means if it is really 106 miles, just as the driver how much to tow it a extra 6 miles cash. Toss him a tip and some will do it for free. I'd just ask the driver If I toss you a $20 will you take it the extra 6 for free. Worst case is you'd pay for the 6.

You need to maintain the tension of the front shaft as the spindel
cannot hold the bearing togeter for long.
I have couple to let you barrow for that purpose.
The calipers will avoid the wheel from falling off, but the bearings
do back off and you'll eat the knuckles as well.
You can also go to the towing on the internet and get quotes.

While replacing the driveshaft on the toadstone I remembered my VW guru's advice: Never load the front bearing when the axle is removed. I remove and replace while the car its in the air, and snug the bolt. Torque it on the ground. VW torque spec is my fat a$$ standing on an 18" breaker bar. My GMC probably wants a measured amount - but the PO had JimB service the front end completely before I bought it. It ought to be good for a while yet.
