I was looking for a three battery isolater for my 77 Royale as it has a generator battery in the gen compartment as well as a house battery and engine battery in the engine compartment. Can someone send me a source or product model number so I can attempt to source one locally? Is there a way to wire three batteries to the stock isolator properly?

Thanks,

Is the 120v battery charger in the coach considered as an alternator?
Reason being I see listings for two alternator three battery isolators.

sure, problem is, all the batteries will not be charged from the house
charger.

using combiners, they will all be charged from any source, but none will
discharge each other.

read this set of slides,

So with the combiner in conjunction with a 3 battery isolater the 120v
charger will charge all three batteries say when plugged into shore power
or using the generator?

Thanks,

read Jerry's description of how to connect banks of batteries

http://thedovetailjoint.squarespace.com/storage/GMC%20Battery%20presentation%20v3%20reduced.pdf

It is not necessary to have a 3 battery isolator.

the original isolator is a convenient place to attach one combiner.

If you use combiners ,

I see them all the time in the surplus houses. Usually in the $50 to $60 range. Here is one I found using google:

Sully,

The stock isolator is a 2-bank device and only is involved when charging from the main engine. It is out of the picture otherwise. Isolators require that the charging source have a down stream sense lead. Not many converter/chargers have this capability.

Now that we are over that, If you still have a period Onan, it is quite capable of charging the APUs own start battery when it is running and if you run it about three or four times a year, you will still be good.

As to a three battery isolator, I may have one in my shop that is a left-over from a proposed DC rework that didn't happen. If you are interested, I'll make you a real deal.

I have nothing against combiners, and that might be a good enough answer, but they may also be unnecessary. If you could, I would like to know what you have in mind as what you would like the system to do and what you would like to be able to do with it. I'm sure I can point you at parts and wiring to make it happen. If you are going to buy the copper and do the work, my quote would be REAL LOW. Wink

Sully, a little late on this and you may have it figured out by now:
I have a combiner between the "hot" and my rear garden tractor battery, that fires the Onan. Lets the charge get to the battery but keeps the juice from coming back when dry camping. You could also use a switch if you can remember to turn it off and on. The little combiner is cheap from Jim K's place. Gene F. helped me figure it out, in my head. This might save you from all of the reading that I went through on Gene's site. But, if you have time it is good reading.
