I have a 48V (8X6V AGM) battery pack on my DC motor powered sailboat that I
normally charge through a "Solar Stik" transom mounted system comprised of a
Marine grade Aluminum mast setup that supports both wind generator and solar
panels
(http://www.solarstik.com/products-solutions/marine-systems-accessories). I
like the movable solar arrays (12 volt, 2X140 watt panels) but chose my own
Air Breeze wind generator based on the 48 volt charging requirement and
noise restrictions (less is better for neighbors). I have seen lightweight
RV aluminum mast mounts for other wind generators that are easy to setup
once stationary. My setup is pricey ( beats a smelly diesel storage
tank/engine) but you can scale it down to meet the 12 volt requirement or
use a 48 volt DC inverter that would give you plenty of AC power. My biggest
complaint is the weight of the battery pack (66 pounds per 220 Ah battery).
As a backup, I have a 48 volt automatic regulated charger (i4818 Dual Pro
Industrial Charger) that runs off shore power/2KW gas/propane generator.
Just some thoughts about charging solutions and a higher (24/48V DC) voltage
system. I may use a similar system on my 73 GMC work in process. Keep up the
great ideas.

Your setup is a lot like mine. I went with a smaller bank however. (6) 6v. I may go with 8 but doubtful. I use (4) 100w Mono Panels, and (1) Chinook 200w wind generator. Its a rare wind turbine since its a 200w and they don't over rate it, but it produces 200-300 watts. I have talked to a few who have seen these doing 260+ watts often. Many Turbines way over rate their performance.
You said you have seen these alum poles for boats. Do you have any links or pics? I'd be interested in any help I can get. Trying to find a mount is the hardest part of the Turbine.

there are masts that are plastic that are used for dingy masts that would be safer from lightning.
pole vaulting pole or something.
The electric storm is something to design for. IT could be a real shock if it is not. :-(
