I've been holding out on y'all: Last Friday I went to the VA hospital in
Atlanta and got a hearing aid for the right ear (forget the left one, no
one can help it).

Talk about surprises: Who'd have thought those flocks of beggar birds
we've spending all that money feeding would be making such a racket?
They're always chriping, tweeting, & squawking. I may have to quit
feeding them.

And how 'bout all the strange noises these cars make? I thought they'd
finally made turn signal flashers quiet. Wrong! They're noisier than
ever, in the Honda and the Lexus. And that darned Honda -- keeps going
bing-bong-bing-bong-... until everyone puts on their seat belts! Annoying!

Who'd a thought there was so much racket in the world? Biggest problem
with the aid so far is that the volume control's not very effective --
doesn't go low enough!

Can't wait to get the GMC back on the road and see how it sounds. More on
that in another posting.

Ken, I also have profound hearing in my left ear. I got a hearing aid for
my right ear about two years ago and it defiantly has opened up a whole new
world for me.

When I purchased my first GMC and drove it from Minneapolis to Colorado I
got tired of listening to the exhaust leak for 1000 miles, it probably
won't have much of a nuisance if I didn't have the hearing aid.

Ken unfortintly that is the way it is.If it is realy quiet they help a lot. If the space is noisy the back ground noise will drive you nuts as it seems the sounds you don't want to hear are always the loudest. Wait till you go to a noisy restaurant. They have been telling me the aids improve a lot every year with better technoligy. I haven't seen a great improvement in the past 30 years, the back ground noise still drives me nuts. You can get a lot of it tuned out but then sounds you need to hear go away also. You should get more used to it as a little time passes.

Ken,
Since you haven't been hearing much it just might be you have to get used to hearing again. Also they should be able to turn the sound down on the hearing aids if necessary but I would wait awhile to see if you can get accustomed to the sound level. After being accustomed to silence so long you may be more sensitive to sound level. Good luck.

Right now, I'm enjoying the quiet: The thing just beeped "dead battery"
(for the first time) and quit bothering me.

SHE's always wanting to drive anyway -- maybe now I'll let HER. I can
always sleep to avoid the terror.

When she's talking and you don't want to hear it, just put your
index finger
up to your ear and rotate it. It will infuriate her. Still
works for me and I
haven't had an aid with a volume control for 15 or 20 years. LOL
