While I have the rear area of the coach removed I want to install a Fantastic Fan. The original vent is non-powered -- I would like to run power from the fuse panel, about 9 feet. What size wire should I plan to use?
FF install says to use silicone around the roof vent plate -- what caulk instead of silicone is recommended?
Thank you,
Dennis
Here are the power specs...

Performance: SCFM AMPS Decibels
High 920 3.00 40
Medium 653 2.29 39
Low 478 1.86 39

non hardening adhesive ribbon sealer which you can get at Home depot and
the like. Also called butyl(sp?) 1/8" thick by 1/2" wide works well. It is
an adhesive waterproof putty sold in rolls and is easily formed. Tighten
down your fasteners slowly and evenly to allow the sealant to crush as it
crushes and flows slowly.

Hi,
#14 stranded wire would be fine for that amperage draw.

Thanks

RD,

3M-5200 is a very good product; it is billed as an adhesive / sealant. I was told by a guy at the shop where I bought it that it was
REALLY hard to separate two things put together with 3M-5200.

Regards,
Rob M.

There is likely already a 12 v. wire in the area of the fan although I don't know that they did this in 1973.
I would suggest at least a 16 ga. wire. 12 ga would be even better.

I would use butyl tape under the flange of the fan. You can get that at most glass shops or plastic suppliers and perhaps some hardware stores. It is a flexible black tape which comes in various widths and thicknesses. I would use 1/8" thick and 1/2 or 3/4 wide.

Dennis, I used 3M 5200 marine sealant on my 2 fantastic fans.

I will agree that 5200 is real good stuff, but do not EVER use it for something that you might have to remove. I'm told there is stuff called Debond that will make it let go, but I have never seen that work with a thin-wide bonded area.

5200 is even good in salt water, best to use on boats. do it on a sunny day.

west marine, has it around L.A. area. west system epoxy with powder will work but never come out again.

Use west system epoxy on any wet wood dry it with hair dryer paint it on and the wood becomes like steel. Heals wood rot.
Makes it strong again and saves the wood. But under the floor it could become capable of being on fire from muffler
easier. You can thin it out with thinner and paint it on any bare wood and it will not ever get water damage as well. protectant.
I hope that makes sense back to work - Regards Mickey

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I also thought to call Fantastic Fan tech line and spoke to Bob. He suggested Dicor Lap Sealant, a rubber roof sealer sold by many Rv dealers.
Bought 14 ga wire and I am confident in proceeding once the unit is on-hand.

Regards,
Dennis

My 23' 73 had a 12v wire running just forward of the rear where the fan would be installed. You may have 12v there already just forward of where your mounting your unit.

Bob,

Most of the GMC finished coaches had a 12 VDC and 110 VAC wiring near the rear vent area. The 110 was there for the possibility of a rear AC unit and the 12 vcd was there for a powered vent fan. You may be able to find the end at the Circuit breaker box coiled up. The 12VDC wiring could be a white jacked with red and black wires inside.
