In my 73 the overhead bins are mounted with self-tapping screws into the metai struts. I seem to remember mention of some type of threaded insert or such being used in later coaches.
Anyone have any details?
I have some bins down and thought I might the mounting if it is dexirable.
Thanks,
Dennis

My coach had the upper cabinets mounted with Riv-Nuts, which are inserted to provide a threaded hole in the framework.
McMaster-Carr has a variety of sizes available, and they're not too hard to put into the framework, but you do need to get an installation tool.
I think the major advantage would be that you could screw some studs into the holes to help line up the cabinets when reinstalling them. They are probably stronger than the self tapping screws, but that depends how well they're installed.

George,
Thank you -- I was thinking about using J-clips if I can find some that fit the aluminum struts and the existing spacing.
Regards,
Dennis

Dennis,
If you decide to use rivet nuts use these:
http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-rivet-nuts/=g4q5e7
Slotted Body Rivet Nuts For Thin Materials
I can send you photos on how you can make your own installation tool for twice nothing.
They won't turn after you install them! If you're paranoid about that happening you can put a bit of epoxy on the body before you
insert it in the hole and pull it down - that's what I did! ;-)
