In Toronto we get a TV show called Pawn Stars. On a re-run episode the other day, someone wanted to sell one of the 5(?) Coca Cola themed GMC Motorhomes. It looked nice and was supposed to be all original.
The owner turned down I believe $35 K U.S.$ ( the show is filmed in Las Vegas)
With out starting a "price debate" what would you all suggest a Coca Cola GMC MH should sell for in 2912 ?
Are these called gad-a-bout ?

That same owner of the Coca Cola GMC Motorhome is now asking $35K on line
and using the Pawn Stars clip as a promotional tool.

I have no way of even guessing what a vehicle will sell for 900 years from
now. However, if the economy would get going then the person selling the
vehicle might get $35K US in 2015.
The Coke Gadabout (one of the prizes given away) fits into the category of
collectable ONLY if a collector appreciated the fact that it was a GMC and
also enjoyed owning a motorhome in need or maintenance. It will need
maintenance.
I've seen some that appeared to be in good shape go for less than $23K and
some as low as $15K.
I like to tell that I was in one of the five specially-painted coaches in
June of 1978 while it was parked at a Little League park. Four partners had
purchased it from the street person that won it. He submitted over 120
entries with the liner from the bottle cap. They bought it from him for the
value of the taxes plus a little more. That means they got it for way less
than street value.
The coach was later sold to the family owning the franchise in several
Kentucky cities. It sat in a museum until a dozen or so years ago when the
new owners of the franchises wanted neither the coach nor the contents of
the Coke memorabilia museum. All the holdings were sold at auction.

What? Rob not doing his research? I'm amazed and in shock.
Rob, there were five original Gadabouts given away in 1977. Coca Cola had 22
other units (pre-Gadabout) for use by a variety of bottlers. Then, someone
got the idea of getting rich off of the Gadabout concept and the mother
company tried selling 1978 models. Bill may know how successful (or
unsuccessful) that venture was but, if I recall correctly, there were no
more than five bought by the various franchisees.

Hi Rob
There were a number of Gadabouts made available to Coke bottlers in 1977. I
have seen at least two of them. You can tell the '77 by the fridge vent

I believe the prize winners got '78s.

Normally a "collectible" has more value if unused and unchanged.
This coach was neither.
If someone was pricing the coach as a collectible the repaint would have DECREASED it's value, even if it looked "better" than the original design. The interior had "Coke stuff" added to it. While interesting, did not add "collectible" value.
If someone was pricing the coach as a GMC motor home, the repaint and being "in use" should have INCREASED it's value.
Value is in the eye of the beholder.
I do not think the coach was worth what was OFFERED by the pawn shop... at least in the recent economy.
But to the right buyer....

....
How long do you think the seller will have to wait for the right buyer?

Byron,
Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa!
I read the article and note I'm not loosing my marbles, YET!
I reckon if you had one of the ORIGINAL Gad About Coke GMC it might be worth the $35 grand to a passionate Coke collector. The later
replica's IMHO ain't worth a zack! - Your second Aussie slang less for the day!

Looks like a lot of the Coke/GMC questions have been answered, check the links for more details.
The records identify a total of 55 Cokes as being built. We do NOT know the actual build breakdown for the 55 Cokes for GADABOUTS vs standard Cokes. We do know that 5 GADABOUTS were given to prize winners. In addition 4-5 others were made for Bottelers/Distributors business use. They were GMC Motorhomes, not Transmodes although the GADABOUTS received additional upfitting at LRP in Wisconsin for the unique items added to it.
As to price or collectability of a GADABOUT. If changed or restored to a standard other than "as it came from the factory" it is just another GMC, no additional value for non original "GADABOUT trim".
Value for a collectable is all about condition, condition, condition. My take on Jerry Ws GADABOUT (the one on Pawn Stars) there are too many changes from original, paint is way different, the "Coke vending" refrigerator is missing, the many trinkets inside have nothing to do with the original GADABOUT, etc.
And last but not least, a collectable is only worth $35k if a buyer is willing to pay $35k.
Now, why is it that no one asks about the Pepsi GMC that was given away:^)

I've tracked down 10 in all, including one that was abandoned on the
streets of New Orleans about 10 years ago and ended up in Mt
Trashmore, as we call it in Florida.
The GadAbouts were more elaboratley decorated and quite distinctive
while the Coca Colas (there are 25 in the Registry) were simply white
with a red stripe.

Now wasn't there two models??
Wasn/t the model that GM sold the white one with the red stripe?? Called the Gadabout.
The Red coke GMC was the coke model but I don't think it was called a Gadabout. Not too many of the red ones made if I remember right.
I saw the one that was offered to the pawn shop. It was not original but it did look like it was cared for well.
If I was him I'd go talk to the pawn shop again. He may get the 35k yet....
