Hey Mates,

I just traded e-mails with a guy at Visual Impact Performance Systems and asked him if they were interested in supplying 'us' with a practical serpentine conversion kit and they indicated some interest in providing the Olds kits and is looking into the Caddy kit too.

I believe the right way to go here is stay functional; I don't care about the bling, so it can be anodized black for all I care, but there should be a consensus. What kind of considerations should there be (assuming 100% compatibility) to finish, configuration and how many of you seriously want to make this conversion happen?

Reading the net, and talking to those who have changed over, the OEM water pump turns in the "wrong" direction for the serpentine belt systems that are out there. Leigh Harrison has a new custom built water pump that is designed to turn in the right direction.
No idea on the price.

I would be interested, but I have a question.
My GMC does not have factory air and the alternator is on the passenger side. Will the kit take this into consideration? I have no issues moving things around, and would love factory air if it worked. But I hear it was pretty much useless on a 73.

Aftermarket to the rescue (GRIN)

I'd imagine if you went that way (serpentine belt system) you could
have A/C and the Alternator moved. Aftermarket air companies (like
Vintage Air) makes A/C systems for older vehicles. I am sure they
could make an A/C setup.

All it costs is money, right? :)

Money and ingenuity.
Or I suppose, I could go steal a system off one of our test trucks.
I am thinking about putting a Mack dash in my GMC.

I'd be interested in the kit for the 403 if it was priced reasonably. Would it
require a water pump change due to the direction the OEM one turns ??

Michael,

The Mac dash will not do anything to improve your dash A/C if you had one. They are very nice instrument panels, all the A/C ducting
and controls remain the same.

I was planning on taking the entire dash, including all the ducting.
On a Mack or Volvo, the ducting is part of the dash.
I would not touch a new Mack or Volvo instrument panel with a 10 foot pole.

I thought I had read that the factory air on the older GMC's was inefficient due to poorly designed ducting, if that is not the case, then there is no need for me to change the ducting.
