That looks like a nice score. Wonder if there is a coupon out for it.

For the last couple of months Reader's Digest has had a HF 20% off
a single item coupon towards the back. I used mine on a battery
charger.

Maybe I'll have to ask around to see if anyone has a extra RD.

Kirk,

Here's the measurements for the Harbor Freight jack:

http://www.harborfreight.com/20-ton-low-profile-hydraulic-bottle-jack-66481.html

Maximum height: 13-1/2"
Minimum height: 7-1/2"
Ram lift: 6"

Here's the measurements for the Torin jack:

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200318933_200318933

Maximum height: 15-1/2"
Minimum height: 6-1/2"
Ram lift: 9"

Here's the measurements for the Ford jack:

Maximum height: 17-1/2"
Minimum height: 7-1/2"
Ram lift: 10"

Both the Harbor Freight have screw out extensions, the Ford does not.

There is one additional problem with these jacks, the bodies are rather fat and the bogie hooks may or may not have enough surface
area for the jack pad to contact.

I had to modify the bogie hooks I got from Terry Skinner to make them work with the Ford jack. I checked and I don't have any
pictures, sorry.

Regards,
Rob M.

Given the 3 choices I would choose the Northern Tool one or the Jim K. one which I believe is similar specs.

It starts lower and can be adjusted to a higher starting point if necessary. It has a 9" lift. The Ford is 10" lift but starts higher and can not be adjusted.

G'day,

I have Cc'd JimK on this email so he can verify that both the bogie hooks he sells will work with the Torin jack he also sells. I'm
sure he doesn't want to ship a setup to someone only to have them tell him it won't work!

I am asking that because the OD of the Torin jack body is 3.76 inches.

Therefore it is 1.88 inches from the center of the jack pad to the side of the body. Add an additional 0.5 inches and you get the
distance from the side of the body to the "end" of the jack pad.

Therefore for bogie hooks to work properly with the Torin jack in the full down position they must have a horizontal pad that is
2.38 from the vertical part. A - B.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=42552

As noted in an earlier message I had to modify the ones I got from Terry Skinner to work.

Regards,
Rob M.

Rob,

While you're checking, have you verified that the jack will go under the
jack hook pad with a completely flat tire? Considering the possibility
that a blown tire may take out the air lines to the bags, it really should
be checked with the bags empty too.

Ken,

Nope!

Good points!

It would sure piss me off I had bought a bunch of tools only to find out that when I REALLY needed them the bloody things didn't
work!

We might save Kan-O-Tomatoes an a$$ chewin'! ;-)

I have a pair of Ford Jacks in Houston but no Torin's, I'll see what happens with the Ford jack and since it's an inch higher it
should work with the Torin's.

Yep, when I had a blowout last year while passing through Salem,
OR, the debris took out the drivers side air line. The body went down
so far that I couldn't get my WalMart 4-ton jack under the Tom Warner
jack hook. I pulled out the original GMC jack and lifted the coach to
swap the tire. Also was lucky enough to be able to fix the air line.
Like Ken says, it's something to try before you hit the road.

I have two of the hooks from JimK. (The black one in the first photo.) I also had to modify it to make it work with my jacks.

While it would lift the coach just fine, it had problems when lowering. The edge on the bottom, point "A" in the photo, would catch on the top of the body of the jack. This same edge also tore off the fill plug on one of my jacks. I ground the edge at a 45 degree angle. I also ground down the bottom corners so they would be less likely to catch. I am careful now to place the fill plug in the corner part of the hook so the plug and the hook do not rub.

I, like Rob, do not have pictures... but could take some if needed.

Gary,

Good information.

What are the measurements of your bottle jack and your Tom Warner jack hook.

Do not make too big of a deal if it will not fit completely under the jack hook. Simply place the bottle jack under the frame and raise the coach a few inches. The place something (2x4, tree branch, ex-wife, etc. under the bogie support. Let the jack down and move it to the position where you want to use the hook. You could even slide the spare tire under the frame temporarily while you move the jack. I actually have two bottle jacks because I was given one of those 2 stage ones. I keep them both in the coach. So one could be used initially to get the coach up high enough to get the second one with the hook in place.

2.5 inches.

Also, I now have pictures of my modification. I ground off less than I remembered. Seems to work for me now. I'll post soon.

If nothing else, we back our jack with a 3year warrenty coverage.
Harbor Freight is only for a year.
We encourage customers to use it few times as the failier usually
happens the first coulle times.

Jim,

We all know about your generous warranty, you've demonstrated that time and time again!

How about a picture of both of the jack hooks on the Torin Jacks?
