Driving by Mr. Motorhome RV Dealership in Quartzite, we saw a GMC for sale on their lot. Looked it over. It is pretty nice with many good upgrades. However, they are asking $39,000. Based on what I saw, I would think less than half that would be more realistic. The salesman didn't know anything about it.

Maybe the TZE is listed with more information. The TZE is: TZE365V100797. So, Steve or Dave, is this a new one?

Here are some pictures: <http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=5997>
or
<http://tinyurl.com/6v78q42>

So far we have visited with two other GMCers (out at MM 99 on Hiway 95) and, today, we saw a GMC at McDonalds but no one around.

Sure looks really nice. Its crazy cause it is really easy to have $39,000 in to one. I have over that, and its not as nice. (most of that was getting totally ripped off during the learning curve by people I "could trust") Was the inside nice? Looks like you can see into the back window a bit. $39,000 off the bat, I'd think I'd buy something else.

TZE365V100797 is an Avion last owned by Tom & Merilee Hulett of
Escondido, CA....a very old record. It would be great to learn who
owns it now and any prior owners going back to the Huletts. According
to the photos it lacks the ski stowage hatch usually found on Avion's.
It would be just behind the front wheel...passenger's side.

Thanks!

Oops! Thanks Byron and sorry John. I knew that but still got it wrong.

If this coach was an Avion, it is somewhat unfortunate because the interior has been gutted and redone - except for the twin beds in back. The aisle is extremely narrow. The inside looks good but still needs a little work. There is no dinette or chairs on the passenger side.

Randy,

Here's a link to the Avion Brochure on Bdub's website, how much was changed?

http://www.bdub.net/publications/Avion2/avion-int-261.htm

Specifically was the landing that is between the love seat and dinette removed?

Regards,
Rob

Hi Randy

That GMC is a 1975 Twin Bed Avion.

It was owned by Thomas and Merilee Hulett of Escondido, CA prior to 1992. In 1990 they registered with GMCMI as having 105,000 miles on it.
I wonder what the odometer says now?

I answered by own question by calling Mr. Motorhome in Quartzite (Knwt Thomas).
He told me the original miles were 51,000.
I asked him if he had any idea of what the actual miles were. He tried to tell me that that was the original speedometer and so the actual was only 51,000.
I told him that the speedometer went to 99,999 and then started over at zero.
I explained to him that I had access to the GMC Motorhomes International club records and the owners back in 1990 registered it with the club as having 105,000 miles in 1990 when it was 15 years old. That was 22 years ago so at that rate it probably has 251,000 miles on it now.

He really didn't want to talk much to me after that!

Rob,

Been out 4-wheeling and doing a little geocaching today. Just getting back. Yes, the landing was removed as well as the dinette. Nothing in the area where the dinette would be. I don't know what condition the original Avion cabinets were in but they have been completely removed and custom built ones put in. The hallway is really narrow. Looks like the only thing original was the rear twin beds. I should have snapped a few pictures of the interior.

We will be leaving early in the morning. Maybe someone else who is out here can get more info. We have been by several times and each time it looks like someone is looking at it. Way over priced in my opinion.

Randy,

Thanks!

Since he removed the landing there was no need to keep the ski storage door.

Yes $39,000 is NUTS!

I looked at that coach a week ago when it first appeared on the lot. My first thought when I entered the coach was wow an Avion as the very round wall was a giveaway. The interior walls and cabinets were a light grey color and ap[peared to be Formica. The hallway was narrow as I needed to turn sideways to get through. It has a carburator on what looks like a stock 455 engine that sounds good. The salesman said it was a 74 but it is a late 75 or early 76. I thought the odometer was at 47,000 but it must be the 2nd or 3rd time around. It has Alcoa's on it but I didn't see any mechanical up grades. The airbags are the original type. The exterior paint and remodel are likely 10-20 years old. The paint on the front cap is a shade or 2 different from the rest. The salesman said they wanted $20,000 but would likely sell it for $12,000 if my brother was serious about buying it. The next day they called and said they would accept $15,000. I have bee told by other folks in my camp ground that they have seen a number of people looking at it. We are at Mayflower Park in Blythe Ca.

Roy,

Avions (23' & 26') were only sold in 1975 AFAIK.

Was the round wall wood or Formica? The reason I ask is Avion built two models:

1) The Provincial = Birch
2) The Sunburst = Formica

Here's a link to a brochure of them both.

Rob M.

From what I remember The driver side had the short couch behind the driver seat and the sink and counter like in your brosure. The dinette side had a narrow table with 2 free standing chairs facing the window. I noticed that it was finished in what looked like Formica by looking at the edge of a door. All I could say about the wall was it matched the doors and cabinets. Did Avion offer a light grey interior?

Roy,

The brochure is all the information I have. The color of the cabinet faces could very well be light grey; I don't know what you'd
call the color of the counter tops / dinette table!

Since you note that the wall matched the doors and cabinets I reckon this is a Sunburst from which a PO removed the dinette.

Note that in a Provincial there is thin trim on all the doors. To convert it to Formica it would be necessary to remove all that to
put Formica over the Birch. I guess that they could do it.

http://www.bdub.net/publications/Avion2/avion-int-262.htm

Just thought of something else, in the brochure above you will note the table that pulls out of the top of the dresser / night stand
between the rear twins; did you happen to pull it out? If it had one was it wood grain Formica or the same color as the countertops
/ dinette table?

If someone does go look at it color pictures posted to the GMC Photosite would be nice to have, this is the first Sunburst I have
ever heard of.

I just looked at the brochure again carefully and noticed some additional differences between the Provincial and Sunburst:

1) The dresser/nightstand in the Provincial has three drawers under the pull out table the Sunburst it has two.
2) The Sunburst has a cabinet over the dinette the Provincial does not
3) The ceiling lining is different

Regards,
Rob M.

I'm not sure it is the same coach, but there was a similar looking one for sale in Quartzsite two years ago. If this is the same coach, it's been sitting for a while.
