Hello. We were looking at upgrading the counter top in our 77 palm beach. We want to keep the original stove/burners. We are going to change the sink and faucet out to an ikea unit. Does anyone have any recommendations on a counter top? Ive seen some of the ikea tops and they look nice. We want to go with a non wood surface. I dont have the tools (haha, I am not even in country) so I guess we would have someone measure/install it for us.

You can use anything for the counter top in the GMC that you can use in a house. I used Formica, Carl S. used a solid material (like Corian) and I think I've seen photos of a wood or bamboo one. There is nothing complicated about it and you could probably save money by taking the coach to the counter top shop so they don't have to travel.

We installed our counter top with Corian (or a Corial like material) and we are very happy with the look and the ease of cleaning. It is, however, heavier than other options.

As the counter on most GMC's is rather small, you also might be able to use a "remnant" from another job.

All my studio counter tops are Corian.  Even disc jockeys can't hurt the stuff.  It's a bit heavier than laminate on particle board, but not a great amount.

Bill,

Corian counter tops are fine, IIRC JimB tried to make a dinette table out of the stuff but it turned out to be too heavy. He even
"milled" out the middle sections and it was still too heavy.

Rob M.

Here's a counter made from an Ikea desk top. The length is 5 feet, the depth is enough to make both the top and backsplash. The sink is also Ikea.

Ikea...

I THINK that is where Erica and Corey got the counter they installed at the TI rally.

This young couple had bought their coach as a basket case just one year before. While they did not have it "ready" for this past TI rally, they brought it anyway. They where installing the interior... AT THE RALLY.

Now that's multi-tasking!
