A PO water line repair failed....
http://goo.gl/zOssE
An earlier failure I found was a hole worn in the copper line by the converter...
http://goo.gl/dkeIb
That lead to the complete removal of the city water fill and overhead line.
PEX may be in the near future....

Another way would have been to slice a 2 inch piece of heater hose and slit it lengthwise; then to have put the hose piece over the leak and add two to four hose clamps. My PO went to the sure method, he cut out the ruptured section of the copper pipe and slipped a heater hose over both ends and clamped them on. That is what I did for the pluming in a house in Arizona and it worked fine for a two years - I put in new pipes at that point. Be sure to run a wire between both sections of pipe if you do this at home or you will not have a ground!
I note these methods as I got to use the split hose and clamp method way out in the desert late at night to repair a transmission line leak. Such temporary emergency repairs often last as long as the vehicle lasts. Yes, Rube Goldberg was my understudy!

Thanks Demmos for the pictures, they really help me understand how I can tackle some future shower drain maintenance.
