Ray,
Your emails are getting through; however, I suspect that no one has used wheels which they're willing to part with.
The best deal you'll be able to get is here:
http://www.appliedgmc.com/level.itml/icOid/489
You could try setting up an eBay or Craigslist search.
Regards,
Rob M.

Yes,
All four of your emails made it through. Including the first that was a reply to a different thread and is buried under it on the forum. (Reducing the pool of people reading it.)
I also suspect that USED -hub centered- wheels will be hard to come by. (There isn't much reason to replace "good" wheels.) MAYBE someone will part out a coach with them... but not very often.
Some non-hub centered wheels will work and opens up more available used wheels. To use lug centered wheels, you will need lug nut that match the wheels AND the studs on your GMC.
Like Rob says, your best bet is to talk with a GMC motorhome vendor. When talking wheels, JimK comes to mind....

Good luck on your quest. With the out of the ball park prices on the
Alcoas, I seriously doubt your quest will be a short journey.

Craigslist. look every day or two. if you live in a large metro area, you will be able to piece together a whole set in a few months. It took me about 3 or so to get mine, and i have five Eagles and two Alcoas (Front), and that was for the lts / 034 style. I missed a set of four alcoa's by just one day because I hesitated due to having all the Eagles already.
Good luck.

I have mentioned about scavaging the wheels off of a burn-out GMC but never had a response.
I am now wondering if the heat from the fire may have damaged the almunium wheel in some way that they are not usable after a GMC fire.
Since the unfortunate circumstance happens, that a fire occurs and destroys the GMC, the wheels are always left and go to the crackers with the burned out frame/body.
It would make sense to recycle these if it is doable.

It's even tough to find the 16" steel wheels with the proper 4.567" center hub and the domed shape necessary. It seems that there are a lot more Ford wheels out there than GM ones.
I have seen center adapter rings available for many different sized hubs and wheels, and wonder if they would be appropriate for our needs?

A,
I'm a bit confused by your comments below.
As far as I know any wheel that is hub centered MUST have an adapter ring to work or be modified to use lug nuts with shoulders.
To use a Ford wheel we would need:
A) A hubcentric ring that is 4.750 in (120.65 mm) OD and 4.567 in (116.0018 mm) ID.
B) A hubcentric ring that is 4.875 in (123.825 mm) OD and 4.567 in (116.0018 mm) ID.
Reference: http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=42249
I did a Google search and found a number of websites that sells them. Unfortunately nothing that fits either of the above
applications.
I sent one of them an email asking if they could supply a custom size, how much a set of 6 would cost, and how big a production run
they would have to make. I will advise their response.
The advantage of 16" tires is the myriad of brands and tread patterns available.
I did a Google search and only came up with:
http://www.bizrate.com/automotive-tires/products__keyword--16.5+tire__show--120__sort--6.html
It appears that the only tire available for GMC's is the Firestone Transforce.

Should work fine, even better with a center adapter ring than without one. I haven't seen any correct shaped wheels with a 4-2/3"
offset. Most are 5" offset. A 3/8" adapter that would center the wheel would also put the tread/track exactly where it was on OEM
wheels. It doesn't get any better than that.
I just figured if I needed adapters, I would have to go to my local machinist and give him $100 per hour to fabricate 6 of them.
Way more than I would be willing to pay, given that the Firestone 8.75R16.5 is only about $10 per tire more than the equivalent
LT225/75R16 tire.
Ford rims have either 4-3/4" or 4-7/8" hub holes.
What's the best price you have seen for an adapter that is 3/8" thick that will adapt a rim with a 4-3/4" hub hole to 4-9/16" (or
one that will adapt a rim with a 4-7/8" hub hole to 4-9/16")?

I did find one site that had adapters with 117mm inner diameter, so I'm sure you could find some.
Ideally, one could find one that would center and space the wheels out so the track could be the same as the rear. I'm sure a machine shop that is set up to do this sort of thing could crank them out, but I have no idea what the cost would be. I had a good friend that was a machinist that helped me out when I needed strange things like this, but he doesn't have a shop anymore.

| I have to plead ignorance here. I haven't found a spacer of any sort behind any of my wheels. The adapter to use a rim with a 4-7/8" hole and a 5" offset on a hub with a 4-9/16" and that had OEM rims with 4-2/3" offset would need a lip around it 5/32" thick to fill the gap between the hub and the hub hole, and a spacer part behind the rim about 3/8" thick to move the rim out to center the tread where it would have been originally. Nothing changes about the lug nuts and what they press against (unless the lug bolts need to be longer). I might have to figure out how to post a drawing of what I am talking about.
If you are saying that a stubby "cylinder" of the correct thickness could be welded or brazed onto an adapter ring that is on the outside of the rim? If so, then that would center the rim, but wouldn't space the wheel out to compensate for the difference in offset.
Does that clear things up or just make it worse?Quote: | To use a Ford wheel we would need:

| True. And there may someday soon be NO sources of 8.75R16.5 tires at all. That's the same conclusion I came to. Last time I compared them the LT225/75R16 Firestone Transforce tire was $10 less at Sears than the 8.75R16.5 Firestone Transforce tire at Sears. That's how I got the $10 figure.

A few years ago, when thinking about some used Ford (OEM) aluminum wheels listed on ebay, I looked into centering rings.
I could not find any of the correct size but found someone selling smaller centering rings on ebay he made in his shop. I contacted him and discussed making custom rings. The price wasn't that bad.
Between the ending bid, shipping and the price of the rings, I got hub centered Eagles from JimK.
BUT if you are looking for a different look, it is an option.
A thought would be to pick up 7 of the more available wheels with larger pilot holes and semi-permanently convert the coach to match the wheels.
I personally like the look of the "LTS" wheel and some Ford dually pick-up had them from the factory. This is very similar to the American Eagle series 034. (Also discontinued.)

A,
The nuts for hub centered wheels like the OEM 16.5" steel wheels or the 16" Alcoa aluminum wheels have flat washers that interface
with the flat surface on the wheels.
The nuts for lug centered wheels have a taper (steel wheels) or a taper or shoulder (aluminum wheels) that interface with the
wheels.
If you use nuts with washers on lug centered wheels they will not be centered. While I was at the Pueblo rally a new GMC owner told
he how he had just replaced his steel wheels with Eagle aluminum wheels. He noted that they looked great but on the trip to the
rally he said the coach seemed to vibrate a lot. We headed off for his coach and when we got there I noted he had OEM flat nuts on
the Eagle wheels and I could see that they were not hub centered. I asked him where he got them and he noted his local wheel shop
had gotten them for him. I explained what the problem was and then suggested we go talk to JimK. We did so and JimK had a full set
of the correct nuts sent to the rally. Problem solved.
I agree it probably wouldn't be cost effective to make one set of adapter rings.
Hopefully they will come back with a reasonable price.
Firestone Transforce tires have received mixed reviews here; some people liked them other said they felt "square."

Rob M.

| The 16" steel rims people want are direct replacements for the 16.5" rims. They use the same lugnuts so no hassle or expense. That is one of the reasons some of us want to go with steel rims instead of alloy (plus the price of alloy rims is way out of budget).
I will send you an email note with a drawing of my proposed adapter.
