This album may also help you, although it was about the horn wire, it will get you into the general area, and has some words describing how to do it. Unfortunately the order of the photos got jumbled up in one of the crashes, but I think you can figure it out.

You'll need the following 2 tools to get to where you need to get, the wheel puller and the depressor tool. Then also a small screwdriver to remove the C ring and to depress the tab on the cyl to remove it. (Look at new one so you can see what you are trying to depress) If it has not been done before (unlikely at it's age) on some you have to gently knock out the casting to access the hole where you depress the tab on the cyl to slid it out. I think you have to have the key in the lock as well to rotate to the proper angle.

Also, when you use the depressor tool, only tighten it down enough to get clearance to remove the C ring. If you crank down too far you break the turnsignal switch assembly.

John,
Might I suggest you take some photos as you disassemble the column. It will make the job much easier.
C.R.S. has turned into the N.O.R.M. so the camera is now my friend on most of my projects.

I haven't been following this, but it appears you're about to tear into the
steering column. If so, don't fail to review Richard Sowers' Power Point
at www.gmceast.com. It tells you, and shows, 'most everything you need to
know.
