You know, I generally read my gmc stuff via email instead of the forum. Just now I responded to a post that had already been answered better than I could have, but I didn't know it because with email I'm always reading backwards.

Particularly on my iPad I read from newest to oldest, so I don't always get the whole story. On the forum I read from top to bottom (chronologically) so I better understand what folks are saying.

Email is a little more convenient for me, but the forum is better organized.

Just tossing it out there.

As someone that also does both (well, three actually, I collect the digest too). That is exactly why I try to never answer from the e-mail. This gets a little crazy, but it is easier to find and read the whole thread on the forum. It is really bad too, when you read it as e-mail and then go to find it on the forum and you can't find it again. I would like to use gmail, but the primary Gmail account is not for GMC anymore. I have to figure out how to make Gmail read eight or nine different accounts. I use @ddresses to separate traffic by interest area.

Until recently I received the emails -- and I read the forum. I was always reading things twice -- checking emails on my iphone and then seeing it again on the forum. Since I stopped getting the emails, I think I spend less time -- but with more focus on the subjects of interest or where I think I can contribute.

And the forum has the sandbox -- so I can leave a joke or car post that is not strictly GMC related -- more people should take advantage of that area of the forum --

I am glad we have both -- as some who are major contributors prefer the email and I would not like to be without their input.

Dennis -- from the Forum...

Larry,

I use Microsoft Outlook and you can select how it displays the messages.

It will group / sort them by:

From: This message has "Larry Davick" in that column.
Subject: [GMCnet] Email vs forum
Received: Mon 9/01/2012 8:58 AM
Size: 10KB

I normally set it to sort by Subject and they are listed with the earliest at the bottom of the group it's in.

Works for me!

Regards,
Rob M.

Yes, and Larry can easily set his iPad email program to read eariliest
first or latest first. Just a simple thing to do in his program set up
preferences.

Really? MS Outlook is still widely used by businesses for corporate
email. Maybe you mean Outlook Express.

I use Mozilla Thunderbird and read it oldest to newest, grouped by
conversation. I will use the forum to initiate a new thread.
