I have started revamping our 76 PB and when I took out the cabinet above the stove the particle board has swollen and deteriorated from moisture thru the range vent. My thoughts was to plug the vent hole to the outside and use the cabinets from the passenger side for above the range. Has anyone else eliminated the range vent and light combo.
We do like the openness of the removed cabinets in the area behind the driver and passenger seats.

Hello,
I had a leak in the fan vent, that caused the same problem you had. I managed to find a diferent vent that loooked nice.
"I would add that the old screw holes did NOT MATCH up with the new vent". NONE of the newer fittings i have bought line up with the OEM holes...........
Also it can be totally closed off. After thinking a lot about the fan and vent setup, i decided to make it look nice on the outside, but leave the option of adding a fan back later on if needed. Planning to just seal the vent off inside, and covering over with plywood ETC so from inside it just looks like a flat wall. Thats my pennys worth on this subject. If you ever wanted to sell the coach, it might be better to leave a vent in, so the next owner could use it if needed ?????
cheers and beers

I closed and sealed mine several years ago, with no regrets.

I glued a piece of 1/8" plywood to the inside of the aluminum skin, then
used West System epoxy with filler to fair-in the exterior. Once it was
faired, I put a thin layer of fiberglass over the patch from the outside,
extending the glass about 1" past the cut-out on all sides. This was then
sanded and faired until it virtually disappeared. Then the whole GMC was
repainted.

With the weekend off and good weather I sealed up my stove vent. I tried to pry out the vent cover on the out side of the coach but it was securely glued in place. I had a scrap piece of 1/4" lexan that I used to plug the inside of the vent cover and sealed with silicone sealant. Than used a piece of 1/8" plywood to cover hole on interior side behind cabinet. This would allow next owner to install range fan if they want? Thank everyone for your ideas on this.
