Hey;

I need to install the Wave propane heater in the Stretch, but then
there is this worry about the carbon monoxide problem. Is there a low
power, 12V detector out there that works that will give the wife and
myself peace of mind when using this propane heater at night? We're
actually not worried about ourselves, but we don't want to sacrifice
PoohBear, Bunky, or Boodie (the JRTs) due to our stupidity. Thanks for
any help.

Yes--they are readily available in 12V versions either as just a CO detector or a combined smoke and CO detector. Lowes, and Home Depot carry them and I suspect Walmart may as well--usually around $10.

Gary, we use one with 9 volt battery and replace the entire thing every 3-4 years. We need a new one now. But, I don't sleep with the Wave on.

hello,

I just got one of these recently.

It's not 12v but its less than 30.00 bucks, and it tells you the highest reading it measured, and has digital display.
Seems very good value for the money.

We have two CO detectors. One is combined with a smoke detector and the other is only CO. Both of them say two years max use and have some sort of timer in them that makes them quit working (so they say) when the two years is up. I remove the batteries when we are not using the coach so they cannot count time. That should work. I got both of them at Wally World - about $15 (timing logic probably costs more).

Hello,
I believe the sensors in these devices have a limited lifespan.

Personally i would NOT remove batteries, and leave around for months on end, "assuming it does have a timer", that would worry me.....

If the sensor exceeds the useful lifetime, it could cause very catastropic events.

If of course i am totally wrong here, someone will correct me.

cheers and beers

Anybody got a line on a low cost 12V or battery powered LPG detector?

I've got one of those also. She can even smell the leaks that aren't there.

Hey Guys;

Thanks for the great info. I think I'll check out the RV places for
a device made for RVs instead of the home units that WW and others
sell. Yea, probably more expensive, but in this case I think it will
be worth it for us. Thanks again. I'm outta here...

The last one that I bought at Menard's said it was approved for use in RV's. It was around $20.00 last summer. The instructions to remove it after 7 years of service. If Menards had them then Lowes or Home Depot ought to have them for about $5.00 more.

Correct. The detection capability has a lifespan. Our state fire marshal
checks when you go to license your motorhome when purchased out-of-state. I
now have LP, smoke and CO detectors. One is near the ceiling, one is mid
height and the other is near the floor located in different place through
the coach.

The smoke detector gets angry when fixing pancakes in the coach. It doesn't
like the scent of cooking spray getting hot on the griddle. The solution is
to remove the battery and put it back in when done.
