Even after replacing the transducer with a shiny rebuilt one, from Applied GMC, I am still having problems with my factory cruise control. It definitely needed the transducer, but it still will not engage properly. I have checked the brake switch, and will take another look at it, but I think the problem is in the actuator switch in the turn signal lever. I have a "tester" that I borrowed from my mechanic friend, and the next time I drive the coach, I will plug it in and see if that fixes the problem.
What it is doing is this: It will engage when I push the button in part way, but as soon as I let it out all the way, it disengages again. Am I barking up the wrong tree here? I talked to Nick at Applied and he didn't know of a source for the switch. My mechanic found a listing for them but they are very expensive. If anyone here on the list has a good switch that you are not using, because you have converted to the Rostra, I would be interested in acquiring it from you.

When you release the switch, the solenoid in the transducer holds up through a 50 ohm resistance wire on the "hold" lead into the transducer. If that lead was broken, it would exhibit the conditions you described. There is a checkout procedure in the cruise control manual on the bdub site you might want to investigate. I found it very useful when I had problems with my speed control.

You really need to depress it all the way to set the speed. Also, if you release the button too quickly it will not engage. When you release the switch button it is really out of the system at that point so it doesn't sound like that's the problem. Does your dash indicator work so you can "track" what it is trying to do?

I understand how the system is supposed to work. If I depress the button all the way and release it slowly, I can feel the cruise control take over the gas pedal at some point. it will stay engaged as long as I keep my finger on the button and partially depress it, but will disengage when I release all pressure on the button. I can then get it to re-engage by depressing the button partially again but, again, it will disengage as soon as I release the switch completely.
I will look at the manual and maybe check the "hold" wire, but It will sometimes engage, and stay engaged, if I release the button slowly enough. Actually, it USED to behave that way, and did, on the way to last weekend's Saguaro Jetset rally, but it would not stay engaged on the way home. That is what leads me to believe it is a faulty switch.

On that old style (one button) stalk is the switch out at the end near the button? Could you spray some Caig Deoxid D5 in there to clean and lubricate the contacts, if that is the problem. On the old one button type isn't it:
press to set
hold to accel
press to cancel?
If so, then a bad switch may be canceling it after setting it? Thinking out loud here and don't have mine to look at. Darn the winter!

Actually the original stalk/button has all of the same functions as the newer resume type except for the on off switch. I modified my system to a resume type without replacing the stalk.

This must be the 'old - old' style. The 'switch' I'm referring to is the button in the end of the stalk. There IS no separate switch I did spray some CRC contact cleaner into the button while depressing and releasing it, but it didn't seem to help.
Bob, I think I printed out your instructions on how to modify the original system for the 'resume' function. I might try that sometime, once I get this current problem worked out.

I am also having trouble getting my Cruise to function, but now I'm even more confused.

The Maintenance Manual 12-36 says "Depressing the button partially allows current to flow to the transducer solenoid at full voltage which causes the solenoid to pull in. Depressing the button fully opens the circuit to both the resistance and standard solenoid feed wires and the solenoid becomes deactivated."
Which is correct, press fully to engage or press partially to engage?

Well I guess both probably are. I've noted that if I push mine all the way in, it more reliably sets the unit since pushing partially in is somewhat nebulous since you can't always tell if you pushed far enough unless you watch the light. If you push all the way in, it still sets it on the way past partially in--if that makes sense

How are the roads around Pinetop after the snows.
I'm leaving Sat for Phoenix, then spend Christmas in Pinetop, actually just behind the Lowe's at Showlow.
Trying to decide whether to go thru Pinetop as I usually do or to avoid the mtns and go through Safford or Tucson.

Jim,
I plugged the stalk/button into the harness on the coach to test it on the way home from Casa Grande, and it worked perfectly. Thank you so much. I will replace the old stalk as soon as I have the chance, then my cruise control system will be working 100% for probably the first time since I've had the coach. I really appreciate it.
