I bought this product at Pep Boys fo installation under new carpeting on my cockpit floor. It has a reflective foil backing attatched to one side of a shredded fabric pad.
There are no instructions for installation but I assume that the foil side should go down--towards the heat source.

Any informed opinions as to installation and or effectiveness?

Seems to me that if engine heat has already passed through the engine cover it's too late for the reflective foil to be of much benefit. But, I'm often surprised by things that are counter- intuitive.

Someone please 'splain how this product can work in this application.

Thanks.

I have used that stuff on hot rods. It is far more effective that the foil
bubble stuff, not as light though. For a while, it was getting hard to
find.

And it made a big difference in sound within the cockpit. Can't attest
to heat just yet...

I will have some info on both heat and noise suppression once installed. I took sound and temp readings before I started the project and will remeasure after completion.

Hope I'm not dissapointed.

That makes sense as the foil will reflect infrared heat waves.

However you have to decide if you are trying to keep the motorhome
warm in cool weather or cool in hot weather.

I suppose you could put in two layers so as to have foil on both sides.

I have a 69 Avanti Ii - all Fiberglass body - when I got it there was
carpet but no insulation. Worse than a hot sauna. Installed the hot rod
insulation - foil side against the fiberglass and the wool like on the
inside. Made a world of difference - keeps the hot out in the summer and
heat in during this time of year. Helped a bit with reducing the engine -
exhaust noise as well. \

would it be more effective to have a reflective foil under the floor so that the floor could then help insulate? I don't remember, is the cocpit wood or aluminum?

Depends on the temperature range it is designed to be used at and if it is fireproof.

The forward angled part of the cockpit floor is aluminum, the flat part is plywood.

Check out Lizard Skin Ceramic Heat coating

www.lizardskin.com

I bought this and will be appling it to my Avanti Car and the front cab
part of my 2 coaches this early Spring.

Will post results following.

Not cheap - the 2 5 gal cans and sprayer ran just over $800.00.
