Here are some belt part numbers for the 455 engine:
Fan belt - alternator:
Napa value line or Dayco 15570
Napa 25-7570
Goodyear 15574
Fan belt, water pump & power steering:
Dayco 15450
Goodyear 15466
Napa 25-7450
Fan belt, air conditioner:
Napa value line 15620
Goodyear 15634
Napa (NBH line) 25-7619
If your generator runs, you can use it to keep your batteries
charged up without the alternator. See:
http://gmcmotorhome.info/batt.htm#101
hope this helps,

If you are going to replace the belt(s) yourself go to an AutoZone or Advanced auto parts. They are all open on Sundays. To get you going, do not worry about the Air Conditioner belt. Just cut it off as it is shot anyway. Buy a complete set of 3 belts even if you do not replace all of them right now.
I believe with the AC belt gone that you can replace the alternator belt without removing the Power Steering belt. It is larger and should fit over the installed PS belt and pulleys. (I could be wrong on this.) If you can't, It is only one additional bolt to loosen the PS pump and remove that belt also.
Work the the alternator belt over the fan / water pump pulley then the crank and Power Steering pulley and finally over the alternator pulley. As I remember, there are only two bolts to loosen to get the alternator to move all the way in. Move it all the way in and slide the new belt over that pulley. Then move the alternator as far out as you can and pry on it with a long shaft screw driver or small bar to apply as much tension as practical when working from the top. Tighten the bolts and you are finished.
I usually work on prying the alternator from the bottom and tightening the first bolt from there. I can get more tension on the belt from the bottom. For now we are just trying to get you going. If it slips a little you can re-tighten later if necessary.

It is the other way of viewing this forum. It sends out one email for every posting, flooding your email inbox with everything whether you want to look at it or not. There is no threading or sub-threading though some people try to single thread based on topic titles using email sorting programs. Others set up special email addresses just for GMCnet to keep the flood from affecting their normal email. Using these methods sub-topic threading is still lost.
You were singed up for it but have the email notification turned off.
I am subscribed to three different forums. Luckily the others do not even offer email. If they did and I was to get all three of these in my inbox, the mess would be totally unmanageable. On one of those forums I probably only look at 10% of the messages but they generate about 3 times the number of postings that GMCnet does. The other one generates about 75% of the postings that GMCnet does per day. Even on GMCnet I probably only look at around 50% of the postings.

JP,
If you are reading the forum, there is more under the migxjax thread.
Blue laws are a throw-back to days when the region was ruled by puritan churches that though nobody should be doing any shopping on Sunday. Grocery and pharmacies were excluded, but most all else was forced to either stay closed or restrict sales to approved items.
I remember a fight to kill them in NJ, but they existed in some counties of NY and CT until recently. As I was indicating, a native guide will help a lot. Go get the other post.
And Good Luck

If I am using someone else's computer, I enter bdub.net (for "Billy W.") and use the links of his site. Go to: "GMC Motorhome Pages" and the top link on the page is the web based forum.

When you get there the first time you will need to click on login and then forgot password. Then enter you email address (it must be the same address that you use on the mail list).
Your user id and password will be sent to your email address.
You can view without logging in but all of tracking of which postings you have already seen will be lost. So go through effort of logging in the first time. After that your log in will be automatic every time you sign on from the same computer. You can sign of from multiple computers any time you wish and still end up automatically logged in at the correct place.

Tell them to look up a 1976 olds Toronado with a 455 engine and air
conditioning. I am in my car right now (in a parking lot) so I can't
look up a number for you.

JP,
In your situation, don't check for width, else you'll spend the next week
hunting all over the NY area hunting them. Not one of the NAPA, AutoZone,
Advance Auto, CarQuest, or O'Reilly's stores here had "wide enough" belts
last week. We're waiting for some supposedly wide enough belts via mail
order.
